On their debut album Pablo Honey, Radiohead included a song entitled “Anyone Can Play Guitar.” While some people have interpreted this phrase as a musical philosophy proclaiming that proficiency with an instrument is relative, the slogan can also be understood from a practical standpoint: it really is true that anyone can learn to play guitar.

The first step to playing guitar, or any instrument for that matter, is learning how to read music. While chords will allow guitar players to imitate their favorite songs, to truly understand the fundamentals and develop a skill set that transcends any particular instrument, it is necessary to learn to read music. The easiest instrument to develop this skill on is the piano, which is why most people start there.

guitars for kids brianEvery year my husband and I try and come up with a “special” Christmas gift for each and every one of our children.  We like to have at least one gift that when opened garners a genuine “thank you so much!” facial expression.  We are getting our daughter Becky a  series of horseback riding lessons, our middle son Tom, his own golf clubs, and Brian our youngest a childrens electric guitar!  Yes I think Santa will have a lot of “goodies” on his sleigh this year!

I was telling my girlfriend Sally about my ideas and she about fell off her seat when she heard what we are getting for Brian.  She says that now she is looking at kids guitars as the perfect gift for her son.  I must admit how much fun it was to look at all the guitars for kids that are available .   I also bought some learn to play guitar instruction books for Brian.  Yes I think it will be a Merry Christmas for all!
