42-19762642Twins run in our family and I have 2 fraternal twin boys who love music as much as I do.  We hope to be able to get them some amateur guitars this year for Christmas.  It has been so great to learn that there are some really cool kids electric guitars out there.  We have a wonderful cousin who will offer them really good instruction.  We also have some wonderful learn to play guitar DVD’s as well.

I have played guitar, drums, and piano throughout my life and my wife has played piano and harp most of her life.  We are very glad to have them learn guitar and other instruments and/or hobbies of their choice.  There are some great kids instruments out there and I have to admit that I would love to see my boys become musicians like their parents

A Music Teacher’s Perspective

teacher childrens acoustic guitarsI am a music teacher and a parent.  I have seen for years how kids instruments have provided not only an important hobby but taught discipline, skill, and the importance of experiencing passion!  I have watched many of my students in their budding music careers.  My two older children first learned to play guitar on good quality and easy to learn childrens acoustic guitars.  They still play guitar to this day and while they both have their own careers they still enjoy playing and believe that this hobby has added so much dimension to their lives.

I love children and I have enjoyed sharing the love of music with them!  I have seen for many years that kids who develop hobbies at a young age often do better scholastically and go on to good careers.  I will be retiring from teaching in a couple of years but my love for music will always endure!

guitar lesson videosI don’t know anyone who loves music more than I do.  Music adds such spice to life that I want to share this joy with anyone who is willing and able.  There has been no doubt what type of gifts I am getting my son this year for Christmas.  He already has an electric/acoustic guitar but I feel he needs more instruction to learn different types of music and good playing habits.  I have just purchased for him some guitar lesson videos.  I think he will really enjoy this and thank me for it later.

As a family we have really bonded and become close over our musical instruments.  Our kids have started young and I have been amazed at the wonderful quality kids instruments that are available.    We also bought our youngest son a kids drum set last year and it has held up extremely well given all the time our son has devoted to it.  After all what would life be without the sound of music!

Children Need to Explore their Creativity

kids electric guitar samI am so glad that there are programs and schools out there that encourage children to explore musical instruments and learn self discipline.  What is even better is that now there are many different types of kids instruments available.  I was talking to my good friend Kent who has kids.  He has gotten them started early in their musical careers.  Kent’s oldest daughter now plays violin and just competed at the state level.  Kent says that his younger son Sam wants to play the electric guitar.  Kent told me about an unbelievable selection of kids electric guitars in stores and online.  He said that right now he is pricing guitars for Sam and is in search of the perfect kids electric guitar.

I am not a parent but I do love children.   I am fortunate to have nieces and nephews and seeing what Kent has done for his kids inspires me to want to help my nieces and nephews.  My nephew Scott seems to really like the drums and I may talk to his parents about getting him a kids drum set.  I think kids instruments are a better Christmas gift than some of the electronics kids get today.  Children today need more outlets to explore their creativity

The Joy of Learning and Instrument!

kids guitarMy youngest daughter Katie is asking for guitar lessons.  She has decided that it is her mission in life and she will play the guitar in a band or do a solo act.  Katie is eight years old and so I want to look for beginner guitar lessons for her.  My second task is to get her a beginner kids guitar!  I have been looking around for some good deals and will probably be able to find her one by Christmas.  It is my goal in life to make my kids happy because the more well adjusted they are now the more likely they will be to grow up to become productive adults.

I am a strong believer that learning to play an instrument can teach discipline but also help your child express his or her creativity in a healthy way!  My older son Daniel has spent many years learning how to play the trumpet and I am so glad that kids instruments are available so that children can experience the joy of music at a young age!   Soon my house will be filled with the sound of music!  I can hardly wait!
