Investing In Your Child’s Creativity!

I love it that my son is such a little ham!  We have a lot of fun with that and he has been quite entertaining to our friends and family.  He seems to really enjoy watching shows like American Idol and is convinced that he too could be on the show and become famous as some of the contestants on the show have.  He wants to sing and has already begun serenading us with little ditty’s here and there whether we want to heat them or not!  Now he is trying to convince us that what he REALLY needs is an electric guitar!  Say what!

My husband is my constant supporter, my comic relief if you will.  He just takes it all in stride.  He assures me that there are many kids electric guitars out there to choose from and we will find an affordable, good quality and durable kids guitar for our son. Ok, if you say so.  Maybe this will be a good outlet for him to focus his energy.   He is such a ball of energy and it is important not to stifle his creativity.   I guess I’m game!

Having Fun On a Budget?

As I look toward what I have to face for the rest of the year in terms of financial responsibilities, I feel a little scared.  My husband and I make a pretty good living as least as compared to a lot of other Americans who struggle to put one foot in front of the other.  By no means do we live “high off the hog” but we really try to count our blessings.  With four kids, two birthdays coming in the fall and Christmas in December, it will be a bit of a tight squeeze this year.  My adorable little son who will turn eight in October has been “begging” my husband and I to get him a kids guitar so he can one just like the neighbor kid’s down the street, (who might as well be living at our house anyway!)  Since his birthday is not until October we do have some time to look into this.

Tomorrow at work I will google cheap childrens guitars just for the heck of it and see what comes up.  My husband is vey frugal, even more so than I and he has come up with a budget that we need to stick to so I will keep that in mind while I search.  Of course we don’t want to get him something that will fall apart in 2 weeks but if we do our homework I think we can find a childrens guitar that will fit the bill for all concerned.  Only time will tell.

They’re Only Young Once!

My daughter is just SO cute.  I know all parents must say that about their kids but I really do love watching her grow as I re-experience that unspoiled child-like innocence!  As a family we are getting together along with her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins to celebrate her sixth birthday.  All our daughter can talk about is how much she wants a guitar.  She is pretty insistent and somewhat persistent when she wants something.  My husband did a pretty thorough search for childrens electric guitars and found some absolutely adorable guitars for our aspiring little musician!

On Sunday we will present her with a childrens electric guitar that I know she will just love!  I believe that one of her cousins already has a kids guitar that he really enjoys so he may be able to give her a few pointers.  I look forward to some lovely impromptu concerts form our little rocker!  I want to enjoy that period of innocence for as long as I can!

Being A Parent Can Be Fun!

I am going shopping next week and will begin looking for gifts for my daughter’s seventh birthday.  I have some good ideas that I know she’ll like but this year I really wanted to get her something special.  I wasn’t sure what that would be when suddenly it hit me one night while over at a friend’s house.  My husband and I were having cocktails with friends of ours before going out to dinner several weeks ago.   Before leaving for dinner we saw their youngest daughter showing her babysitter some new songs that she had learned to play on her kids guitar she had received from her parents this past Christmas.  It was really quite an adorable site and the more I thought about it I think my daughter would absolutely love a small kids acoustic guitar like our friends’ daughter.

Because our daughter is so young and not very big, she would require a very small acoustic guitar.  We could probably find some that are relatively inexpensive.  I am also going to search online for discount kids guitars.  I think that this will most definitely make for a special birthday and now I am really excited to begin shopping!  Sometimes being a parent is more fun than one might think!

Born To Rock!

My son was born to be a musician I just know it.  The kid is either beating his hands on the kitchen table to some song or is picking up whatever he can find pretending to “jam” on a make believe guitar.  This make believe guitar could be a tennis racquet, a broom stick or whatever he can find that could pass for a guitar!  As a family we have decided that the only proper gift to get him for his upcoming birthday is an electric guitar.   Since he is still just a kiddo we will get him a childrens electric guitar!  I know that he will be beyond thrilled!

As a family we will have fun looking at all the kids electric guitars available!  I think we have a pretty good idea of what type of kids guitar he really wants so hopefully we will agree on something!  We will probably also get him some beginner DVD’s for him to learn some proper technique.  At some point we may even find a private instructor for him.  We all anxiously await July 22nd when our son/ brother will no longer feel the need to jam on whatever he can find available in our house.  Now if we can just tolerate the noise!

Learning To Live In The Moment!

It’s that time of year again.  Where does the time go?  A year comes a year goes and before you know it another child is ready to leave the nest.  How can it be that our youngest son has another birthday and  is already turning five.  He says that this year what he wants the very most is a childrens electric guitar!  Yes at the ripe old age of five he wants an electric guitar for his birthday!  My husband says that it’s not really an electric guitar but a kids electric guitar and let him have fun with it.  I know he’s right but it just seems like they grow up too fast these days.

This coming school year our daughter will be going off to college and I already am feeling the loss of the first child leaving the nest.  Sometimes it’s like the song says “If I could take time in a bottle”, I’d slow  the time down and spend more days  with my kids.  But it is important to learn to live in the moment and not lament the past or worry about the future.  So I will enjoy every moment of my son “rocking out” on his new kids guitar!

When There’s A Will There’s A Way!

My daughter loves music and seems to have a good sense of rhythm and timing.  She has always loved music class at school and has stood out as a good performer in church choir.  As of late she seems to be focusing on the guitar and her wish to learn to play both acoustic and electric guitar.  I am for this idea even though it is a struggle to accommodate my children’s needs as a single parent.  My oldest son said that he can help me search online for a beginner guitar that will be more affordable than if we tried to buy one at a local music store.

As a single mom I am pretty lucky to have good kids who are more than willing to be of help and who do try to understand that in our house money doesn’t exactly “grow on trees”.   My daughter will want to take guitar lessons and she knows that we might not be able to afford them right away.  She told me that there are guitar lessons online for kids with beginner guitars.  It is nice to see that there are so many affordable opportunities for children learning to play the kids guitar.   Life isn’t always easy but I do believe that when there is a will there truly is a way!

Parenthood, A Never Ending Journey!

I must admit that the gift we bought this year for our daughter really turned out to be a bigger success than I had anticipated.  For months she had been begging us to get her an electric guitar and we weren’t sure it if she would really play it once we purchased it or we could really afford it.  I’m glad to report that we were wrong.  We found her a kids guitar that couldn’t have been a better fit if we’d tried.  Not only does she want to play morning, noon and night but the cost was much more affordable than we thought.  If anything now we can use this cute little kids electric guitar as leverage to get her to do less attractive activities, (like completing homework and chores).

Raising children is a never ending journey and you never know what’s around the next corner.  It is important to keep an open mind but provide stability at the same time.  We’re in it for the long haul and wait with anticipation and suspense to see what we’ll happen next.  In the end there’s no place I’d rather be!

What Is Most Important In Life

My kid has been bugging me and I mean BEGGING me to get him a beginner electric guitar!  As a single parent with four children things are tight.  I do what I can for my kids but they don’t get a lot of extras like some of their friends.  Gifts are primarily relegated to birthdays and Christmas.  Fortunately for my son he may not have to wait too long because he does have a birthday in July.    I cannot even think of getting him a kids guitar sooner than July!

The other day at work I did a search for cheap kids guitars and was pleasantly surprised at what I saw.  I think my son will be jamming away come July and that will make both of us quite happy as he will no longer be on my case about a guitar!  There are many gifts we can give to our children and not all of them have monetary value.  I only hope that my kids see that quality time spent together means more than anything.  If they don’t see this now I believe that in time they will.  It’s a never ending learning cycle for both parent and child!

The World According To A Seven Year Old

Since when does a seven year old have all the answers?  My daughter often tells me how life is.  Sometimes she has me in stitches and I think to myself “if only the world was as sweet as she sees it!”  My daughter assures me that many girls her age play guitar and that kids guitars are everywhere!  Everywhere?  I don’t know about everywhere but I will begin looking for them online.  It has actually been pretty fun and I have enjoyed the variety of guitars for kids that are available!

My adorable daughter will however have to wait until June to get her cool little kids guitar because I don’t buy big gifts outside of Christmas and birthdays.  My kids, (much to their chagrin) are well aware of this!  I love my children to death but I will not spoil them.  I want them to appreciate the world without a sense of self entitlement that at times seems so rampant today.  So now I look forward to my daughter’s debut!  Stay Tuned!
