Drum sets are an essential part of any modern orchestra or music band. Drum sets and/or drum kits usually contain percussion components like drums, cymbals etc.. Drum sets were originally developed in the United States and were known as trap kits.  Drum sets are popular amongst all age groups and most children love to hear the booming sound. There are various drum sets available nowadays that are especially designed for children.

Kids drum sets are quite different from adult sized drum sets.  Kids drum sets are usually 3-piece sets for children between the ages of 5-9 years. These sets include a bass drum, a snare drum and a tom-tom along with a cymbal and its holder, snare stand, drumsticks and drum pedal. Children drum sets are typically available in a variety of colors. The stools, or thrones that can be adjusted from 13 to 17 inches according to the height of the child.  There are certain traditional childrens drum sets which are designed for children. They are scaled down in different child sizes in to give them an authentic look, but still comfortable for children to play.

Give a child a pot, a pan or a wooden spoon and most kids will begin to beat the drum! Some kids are even born with a natural sense of rhythm.   You might want to consider buying your child a kids drum set.   Kids drums come with different configurations.   There are drum sets made for children, they include 3 and 5 piece sets which consist of: cymbals, snare and bass drums and tom toms.

A kid’s drum set is a great investment that can enhance your child’s creativity.  Someday your child might pursue music as their career and learning the basics as a child can build a great foundation.  With every beat of the drum, your kid can release pent up energy.  Learning to play drums allows your child to concentrate, develop their skills and focus on becoming better.  Kids drum sets are an inexpensive way to show musical abilities.  The very very best of luck to you and your children!

Beginner Drum Lessons!

Taking beginner lessons is a must if you wish to learn the fundamentals of playing percussion instruments.  You will need to look at kids drum sets to purchase for your child.  Your child will have to learn how to hold the drum sticks and will be taught the proper posture before learning anything else. .

There are a lot of options to consider when deciding to take beginner drum lessons. Your child can take them in school or in the comfort of his own home. If he opts for beginner drum lessons he will receive one on one instruction from a master of the drums.  With individual lessons your child is more likely to master the techniques faster than having lessons in a group setting. The only thing that might be a problem with private lessons would be the cost,   Some websites offer video’s of beginner drumming lessons that are good and relatively inexpensive.  If you choose one of these sites make sure there is one instructor as too many instructors may be too confusing.

Getting a Workout While Playing the Drums!

As adults we are often very aware and sometimes even ‘painfully’ aware that kids have a great deal of energy which can appear to be almost infinite at times.  Parents are often looking for an outlet to channel this energy and often do this by signing their children up for a variety of sports.  Physical activity is a great way to tire a child and keep him from bouncing off the walls but sports aren’t the only outlet for parents to consider.  Playing a musical instrument is a great way for a child to release energy while unleashing a flood of creativity to your child’s brain.

Kids drum sets are the ideal musical instrument for energy release. If you’ve ever been to a concert, I’m sure you’ve seen a live drum performance. Watching an artist wail away on the drums usually causes him to break a sweat.   Your child will be able to exercise his or her arms and legs – don’t forget about the workout from the foot pedal! You might want to take a serious look at childrens drum sets as they can serve many and varied needs for your child!

The Imortance of Good Posture!

Posture is ever so important for many reasons even before a drummer decides to play the drums.  Why you ask?  Quality drumming is dependent upon good posture.  Children may have already heard their parents bark at them to ‘sit up straight’ and not ‘shrug their shoulders’. Parents are often happy with the variety of kids drum sets available. If a drummer plays the drums with a little bit of a slouch, the rhythm and timing will be greatly affected not to mention harm to the lower back over the time.

Believe it or not, the dinner table is the perfect place to practice this critical drumming technique. Before a child receives a kids drum set, tell her to keep her back straight and pretend that her knife and fork are her drum sticks. Just make the fine bone china off limits. You can also encourage her to watch drummers in music videos and take her to stage performances because they almost always demonstrate perfect posture.

Letting Your Child Learn To Play The Drums!!!

The drummer plays an important role in a band, (i.e. the drummer’s rhythm keeps the rest of the band in step.   If for instance a lead guitarist gets off track while performing a solo, (which they often do) a drummer has the ability to reel the band back in by bringing everyone back to the beat.

However drummers like to have their own fun too.   Now that there are some great kids drum sets available make sure that your child has the opportunity to display some of their creativity. Drum fills will occur during the structured rhythm parts, and they are usually improvised on the spot by the drummer.  You can take your child to a live show and point out when the drummer institutes a fill. In its own way, the drum solo or fill can be just as exciting as a guitar solo!  Drums for kids are a great way to begin the exciting process of learning to be a musician!

Beginner Drums for the Aspiring Musician

Parents should study their kids for signs of talent, which can include academic, artistic, athletic or even musical ability. When a child demonstrates an aptitude for or interest in playing music, that desire can be fostered in the beginning with some type of discount equipment to help cut cost.  For the child in pursuit of learning to play drums, a basic drum set should at least include a bass drum, a hanging tom and a snare drum with a high-hat cymbal. These are the raw essentials with which a child can hone his percussive skills.

Even kids drum sets can be customized for optimal sound. You can first begin by adjusting the tension of the snare drum. The specific sound that a drum makes is determined by the tension of the skin as it lies across the frame. You can turn the lugs of the drum clockwise to increase tension and counterclockwise to decrease it. It is very important to note that if you tighten the drum too much, it could be punctured by an eager enthusiastic drummer! Best of luck!

Spending Quality Time With The Kids!

My wife and I became proud parents seven years ago when we had our son.  Two years later we had a beautiful baby girl.  With kids so young Christmas is a HUGE deal and something we talk about for weeks on end before the big day finally arrives!  Those were the days when you were SO excited that you couldn’t wait until Christmas morning!  Our kids recently spent time with their 16 year old cousin Robert.  Robert is a drummer in a band and our son is so taken by him.  Ever since our most recent visit with Robert and his family, our son says that what he wants the very most for his Christmas is a drum set like Robert’s

I am glad that my son looks up to Robert so much and I am starting my search for kids drum sets, (a smaller and more affordable version of what Robert has). I think this will be a lot of fun and my wife is into it too as long as he keeps the noise to an acceptable level.  It is nice to know that kids drumsets are reasonably priced and should last him several years at least.  Kids grow so fast and we are always so busy.  I try to make the most of their childhood years and  watching my son play with a childrens drumset is yet another way of spending time with my son doing something he truly loves!  Merry Christmas everyone!!

Juggling My Job As Santa With The Responsibilities Of Christmas!!!

My wife and I have literally become “professional jugglers” like most parents have.  We feel forced as many of you do to have that “multi-tasking thing” down!  Part of our juggling act this holiday season is to host Thanksgiving for our large family consisting of about 20 people, go on a  Christmas cruise the first week in December with my wife children and her parents, host an office Christmas party for my wife, and help my wife buy gifts for her large family and mine!  My wife usually does most of the planning and I basically do whatever she tells me on my never ending ‘honey do’ list. One of my tasks, she says is to choose a kids drum set to give to our son on Christmas day.  I actually like this assignment and will begin looking at drums for children on line.  I do believe that a childrens drum set will thrill our son BEYOND  belief!

A perusal of some local music stores and a search online should give me a lot to choose from regarding kids drum sets.  I’m sure that on Christmas morning our family will (like it or not) get to hear our son’s enthusiastic first beat of the drum!  I know I can’t wait!!

Bangin On The Drums In Harmony!!

My ambitious son believes that has a promising career as the drummer of a major rock band.  I am in support of his dreams, his mother however is less enthusiastic and says that he can play drums as long as he continues his studies, pursues some other hobbies and has a backup plan if his plan to reach “Rock God” status does not pan out. I guess that someone in the family has to have a practical approach!   Much to my surprise and my wife’s chagrin, our youngest daughter has been “begging” us for her very own childrens drum set!  I don’t see the harm in it and as it turns out she just happens to have a birthday coming up in three weeks.

I have taken the liberty of looking online for kids drum sets and have some good websites bookmarked.  Now it’s just a matter of convincing my wife to “lighten up” and allow herself and her daughter to have some fun.  I’m sure my wife will allow our daughter to play the drums as a reward for completed chores and homework assignments.  I am in agreement with that plan.  Both my son and daughter can “bang on the drums” just not all day long!
