Many kids today express an interest in learning to play guitar but what age should they start? First, is your child big enough to hold an acoustic guitar comfortably? Acoustic guitars for kids come in several sizes. The smallest playable guitar that you can buy is a ¼ size guitar. This kids guitar is made for children between the ages of 4-6 whose height is approximately 3ft 3inches – 3ft 9inches. The next size guitar is a half size for kids 5-8 years whose height is 3ft 10inches- 4ft 5inches. The ¾ size kids guitar is designed for kids 4ft 6inches- 4ft 11inches and the full size kids guitar is for children 5ft and over.
After you have established the proper sized guitar, it is extremely important to know whether your child’s fingers are strong enough to properly hold the strings. It is also a good idea that children use a kids acoustic guitar that has nylon strings. Kids acoustic guitars that have steel strings are too hard for soft hands. Finally make sure that your child has the necessary commitment and enthusiasm. Playing guitar can be a great hobby for your child as long as you do your homework.

If your child expresses an interest in wanting to learn to the play guitar and asks for lessons chances are they will follow through and will want on their own. Age is not always the absolute deciding factor to determine a person’s interest in wanting to learn. Most children under the age of six don’t yet have the aptitude necessary to learn to play childrens guitar. Young children have the choice of kids acoustic guitars or kids electric guitars. You can spend some time with your child and call it music appreciation. Dance and play with them to music. They will develop coordination and appreciation for music, and one added benefit, they get to spend time with you. .
You might want to consider guitar lessons for your child. If you want your child to just have some fun and do something interesting, you might feel that it is worth the investment. If you are looking at seriously getting a head start on your child’s musical development getting them to learn proper technique from the start may be essential

Most children who begin learning to play an instrument don’t express a desire right away to learn how to play music. For the beginner guitarist, the very thrill of strumming the guitar will sustain their interest for awhile however parents will need to impart some type of order in their child’s learning experience. It’s a good idea to allow a child to learn some songs by ear but then move on to learn how to read standard music notation.
Be patient with your child and try to give her all the time she needs to become comfortable with her kids electric guitar. Kids can learn to play music with kids electric guitars and kids acoustic guitars. You might notice that the staff and the notes on a piece of standard music notation are very piano-centric. While the language of standard notation matches up perfectly with a keyboard, transcribing guitar notes is much less intuitive and harder to learn for beginners. While I am excited for him to learn to play an instrument, I must admit that I’d rather not hear an electric guitar played incessantly from his bedroom.
I have decided to take the middle ground and introduce him to the guitar gradually. I have decided to start looking into some kids acoustic guitars. We will start with this first and let him spend time learning the nuances of the guitar. I will see how he does and if he seems to really have an interest and shows some ability, I will consider upgrading him to an electric guitar.
Sometimes students of guitar begin learning to play from an instructor with their own set of knowledge before the lessons begin. Music has been a popular means of expression for many generations. If a child expresses the desire to learn to play an instrument then it is a good idea to encourage them whenever possible. With the guitar being one of the most popular instruments in the world today, it is wise to consider giving your child the opportunity to learn to play guitar, Parent today can choose between kids electric guitars and kids acoustic guitars for their children.
There are some really good multimedia courses offered now for guitar lessons which because of their professionalism and pedigree can deliver what they say they will. These courses can and will keep students both young and not so young invested and learning good technique. Because of the variety and the depth of content, a real learning experience with the guitar can be acquired for kids of all ages.
Playing acoustic and electric guitar has been an American pastime for many years. Our family has enjoyed the guitar for several generations and so it is no surprise that our young daughter has requested an acoustic guitar for Christmas. I am very happy and because she is only six years old we have begun looking at guitars for children online. I am sure we will not have too much difficulty since we have many contacts in our area who will point us in the direction of some good kids acoustic guitars. I believe we have something pretty much picked out and we will probably have to special order it in order to have it arrive by Christmas day!
My father played both guitar and banjo while I was a growing up. Both my brother and I have played guitar throughout our lives and now my nephew plays acoustic and electric guitar in a band. My brother played lead guitar in a really ‘hot’ band back in the day! I am happy that my daughter wants to play and I believe that it will inspire me even more to play. I am very excited for Christmas!

When most parents are trying to decide on their kids first instrument, more often than not it is some form of kids acoustic guitars. This is usually a good decision, as the acoustic guitar lends itself to a more mellow and subdued sound. An acoustic guitar is also a good starting place for young children, and works well with classic children’s songs.
As kids get older, they will predictably desire to explore the realm of electric guitar playing Most parents no longer view rock and roll as hedonistic, and something that only ‘bad’ kids get into. While electric guitar playing is loud, it is also uplifting and filled with energy. Although you may prefer you kids to stick with the melodious acoustic model, it is important to have an open mind and let their music tastes evolve naturally. Tis the season for parents to explore acoustic guitars for children as a wonderful Christmas gift!
