For Christmas this year, I was at a loss as to what to get for my little brother. He is one of those kids who goes out and buys himself everything that he wants, and any present that you get him is sure to be a disappointment. The last time I visited him, however, I noticed that he had a mild obsession with the videogame Rockband.
While his actual guitar is gathering dust in his room, the buttons to his video game model are nearly worn out. In order to inspire him to pick up the real instrument once again, I purchased him the Rockband songbook. Hopefully having the same songs from the game at his disposal will serve as motivation to pick up his real guitar again.
We have just purchased the “very coolest” childrens drum set! Our son Matthew will be pleased beyond pleased! I am so pleased and amazed at the good deals that are out there. We are also so excited that we have found a good instructor who teches mostly childrens drum lessons. Matthew has wanted to play the drums ever since I can remember. Santa will be good to him this year!
Our younger son loves the guitar and we are going to get him guitar hero and the guitar hero songbook. I think we may have unintentionally started out own family band. Oh well, I can be a good sport and I can hardly wait for Christmas morning to see the excitement in their faces!
Our eldest son is convinced that he is only moments away from becoming the next “Rock God”. We have tried to instill doses of reality when tolerable but alas our son remains undeterred! So I guess we will give him guitar paraphernalia for Christmas which seems to be what he wants most. He says he wants the guitar hero songbook. I think this will be in the budget this year. Ever since we bought him a kids electric guitar 2 years ago, he has been on a path toward rock star royalty!
I love my children and will support them to become the people they were truly meant to be. My daughter wants to be a figure skater and win the gold medal in the Olympics. We want to teach all of our children to strive for the best but learn to have fun along the way. After all you don’t have to be the best to be happy!
Anyone who has tried to play an instrument knows how mundane the first few months can be. No matter how old you are, you can only play “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” so many times before you want to tear your hair out. When I was learning to play my first instrument, my instructor allowed me to play music that I enjoyed, which encouraged me to practice more.
