My mom bought me my first guitar when I was seven and it was an acoustic guitar. As much as I love playing on an acoustic NOW, it wasn’t what I expected. As a kid who idolized Eddie Van Halen and Slash, I wanted to play a flying-V, which is something that you couldn’t get kids back then.
Now, parents have an easier time finding an electric guitar for kids, as many guitar companies are expanding their reputations to include children’s lines. While acoustics are good starts, if you have a kid who is definitely going to want to “rock” out, I would recommend an electric. It’s a little loud, but hey, that’s what earplugs are for, mom and dad. Also, electrics just sound better.
