Whoever said that being a father would be easy? I guess I knew it would be hard but I couldn’t really picture just how hard until I got there. Not only is it difficult financially to support a family of five people but to be on top of all the medical and emotional issues of your children AINT EASY! My wife works full time as do I and she spends hours outside of work helping our middle son, (who has learning disabilities and suffers from A.D.D.) helping him with his homework. Now that it’s summer, I’m glad she has a break! I help out when I can but it’s hard with such a busy schedule.
Our daughter will turn eight on July 20th and more than anything she says that she wants a kids electric guitar! I must say, I really was not expecting this! Even though I too love guitar and have been playing for years, I am no expert when it comes to electric guitars for kids! I will have to do some research on this one. The internet makes it so much easier to find you looking for and so I will begin searching for kids electric guitars. Hopefully I will find something in our price range. Hey, I just take one day at a time as each day brings a new challenge, that’s the only way to look at it for me!
Fortunately for kids today guitars no longer feel like they weigh a hundred kilos. Gone are the days when a guitar was just available in one color and one texture (wooden) with strings attached. One may wonder what the difference between an acoustic guitar and an electric one is. The difference is a fine line. The difference is that an electric guitar needs an amplifier but is easier to play or use. The acoustic guitar does not require an amplifier and also has the choice of two types of strings (strings of the guitar); which can be steel string or nylon string. My son wants a guitar for his birthday period. If I can only get him one gift that is fine but make sure that I get him an electric guitar. I must admit that I didn’t expect to hear this from my seven year old! In my mind, age seven is a time to run, play, skin your knees and ride your bicycle to the corner store for ice cream, (it least in my day this was so). Look call me a ‘fuddy duddy”, I mean I love guitar more than anyone but I don’t want my kids to grow up to soon!
Do they even make electric guitars for kids? Yeah, I guess they do. Yeah, I know they do! So it’s off to the “net” I go in search of beginner childrens guitars! Well If I don’t say so myself, there are more websites selling beginner electric guitars than you can shake a stick at! I must say I’m not really surprised I mean if you can’t find it on the internet you’re not going to find it anywhere period! Looks like my “eager beaver” will be “rockin out” with his childrens electric guitar in hand pretty darn soon!
I have been in the child rearing business for quite a few years now and I can tell you that just when I feel comfortable as a parent, one of my kids will show me just how much I still have to learn. Parenting is a 24/7 job with virtually no down time, no summer vacations or weekends off. I have tried to weather all my kids interests be it hobbies, sports and yes even matters of the heart. I am a patient man and have comforted my daughters when their “so called” boyfriends “dared” to break their hearts. I have been such a support to my seventeen year old son who decided that he wanted to be a drummer in a band. He really began to practice more seriously last year as he and his friends are very determined to play in the big time. Many years ago we bought him a kids drum set and he has had a love affair with the drums ever since
Now as a single father, my baby girl wants to ‘rock out” like her older brother except that her she wants to play (of all things) the electric guitar! I am only going to consider doing this for her because she has a birthday coming up in three weeks. As I look online I am pleased to find that there are many electric guitars for kids available today. It looks like there will be a lot to choose from. It makes me smile to think that my little angel and my oldest son may “jam” together in the near future, he in his drums and her on her cute little kids guitar, makes life worth living!
All my life I have wanted to be a mother and I couldn’t be happier with the kids that I have, (minus a few little quirks, like keeping their bedrooms from becoming subject to a state inspection!) Our seven year old son told us about two months ago that he was destined toward rock star royalty. I said “Oh really? Will you remember us when you’re rich and famous?” We started to get a jump start on our aspiring “Rock God’s” career. With much ado, we decided to look at electric guitars for kids. So this past Christmas we gave our eager son a “really cool” kids guitar, what a success! We have assured him that there are some rock stars who do manage to graduate from high school.
We have managed to have our son participate in after school activities including boy scouts. We actually have asked our nephew who has been playing electric guitar for several years to give our son some lessons. Our kids are only young once so I want to appreciate the here and now. I can hardly wait to see what the future holds!
Honoring Your Child’s Passion While Imposing Some Realism
My son has convinced us that he has to play the guitar. It is his destiny and whether or not we get him a guitar he will get one someday and begin playing in his own band. Ok! My husband and I feel that we would rather support him than fight him at this point! We just hope that in addition he will go to college and establish a stable career in something. After all the guitar phase may just be that a “phase” and he will need some back up skills. He wants a specific kind of electric guitar but we want to find one that is of good quality AND affordable!
As parents we have found some electric guitars for kids that look wonderful and in our budget. We may go all out and get him a good instructor but we will definitely purchase some video guitar lessons for him. I can be a good parent but I will make sure that my kid continues doing his homework!
My son seems to want to follow in my footsteps! I must say that this quite a compliment for me but I also want him to see that achieving your dreams takes hard work! I have been a musician all my life and could not love the guitar any more or any less than anyone else but also realize that to make ends meet I also have to work another job! I have been playing in coffee houses for years and enjoy this outlet immensely but realize how hard it can be to “make it” in the real world!
I want to help my son develop his talent while also instilling good values in him. My wife and I are looking for some good quality electric guitars for kids! My wife told me that she also saw a rockband songbook that she thinks he would really love! I think my son will be so thrilled to jam on his kids guitar. I guess you do the best you can as a parent because our job is to give our children roots and wings!
Christmas and Hanukkah are around the corner and our family celebrates both. Our kids of course love it because it means all the more gifts for them. We tend to spoil our kids during the holiday season and despite the economy, this year is no exception. We don’t necessarily buy less, we just buy smarter. Our 2 sons Gregory and Chad LOVE rock music and are huge fans of the Jonas Brothers! We support this interest and even want to help them pursue their budding music career! Of course they are both saying that they want to be lead singers playing lead guitar. They don’t seem to understand that you can’t have all chiefs and no Indians,
I do look forward to shopping this year. I must confess that I have always “secretly” wanted to be a rock star so I am looking forward to “living vicariously” through my boys. As we look for electric guitars for kids, I may also want to search for my own. Who knows, maybe there is a rock band in our family’s future! My wife and my boys however might not share this fantasy but a man can always dream!

Growing up, I was lucky to find myself in the center of a musical family. My musical tastes evolved as I got older, of course, but when my son displayed an interest in playing, I quickly bought him a kids electric guitar. These days we share a special bonding experience, playing classic rock standards together. In order to instill some discipline, I have my son play the rhythm parts while I handle the solos. Guitar music transports us to another place and time; for that, I will always owe the electric guitar my allegiance.
