Christmas has been over for months but the memories still remain. Most gifts we buy for our children are loved when they are received but before long the excitement is over and they’re onto the next thing. Not so with our youngest son! We bought him a childrens drum set and if we let him, he would ‘bang on those drums all day’. My husband and I were ever so fortunate this year to find the deal of a century on drums for kids and we have really gotten our money’s worth! Despite the noise in our home, he seems to have developed some good rhythm. He actually began taking drum lessons in February.
Right now he is enjoying his beginner drums and we may get him a full drum set if he continues to show promise. My daughter still likes her Mp3 player but not with quite the passion her brother has for his drum set. I guess as a parent you can only hope to see your child have a passion and want to work on something!
The drummer plays an important role in a band, (i.e. the drummer’s rhythm keeps the rest of the band in step. If for instance a lead guitarist gets off track while performing a solo, (which they often do) a drummer has the ability to reel the band back in by bringing everyone back to the beat.
However drummers like to have their own fun too. Now that there are some great kids drum sets available make sure that your child has the opportunity to display some of their creativity. Drum fills will occur during the structured rhythm parts, and they are usually improvised on the spot by the drummer. You can take your child to a live show and point out when the drummer institutes a fill. In its own way, the drum solo or fill can be just as exciting as a guitar solo! Drums for kids are a great way to begin the exciting process of learning to be a musician!
Like most four-year-olds, my son has more energy than I would like. While I love my son, there are times when I wish that he would just sit down and ‘chill’ for a few minutes. One of my tricks to induce a lull in his rambunctious behavior to find means for him to release his energy, (not always an easy task mind you).
Since he already is constantly banging on objects around the house, I decided to try to cultivate this passion of his and purchased him a set of drums for children. After doing a pretty exhaustive search for drums for kids online I found a drum kit I knew that he would love! Now when he has too much energy, I simply tell him to go play his drum kit for a little while. Not only does he love playing the instrument, but it also provides him with a very important means of creative expression.
My mother has spoiled my kids for as long as I can remember and while I am delighted to see this, I am a little envious because I wish that she had treated my siblings and I half as well. She is well aware of all my children’s birthdays and because she knows that I am a single parent wants to dote on my kids even more. Christmas is always a HUGE production and this year will be no different! She knows that my very lovely young daughter wants nothing more this Christmas than to be able play the drums with her very own drum set! I don’t want my mom to spend too much money and so I told her that a childrens drum set would be just fine
Mom wants to buy a kids drum set that is of good quality and will last. I have been looking online at drums for kids. My daughter will be thrilled beyond belief! I only wish that when I was my daughter’s age and my mother showed half this much enthusiasm when I was beginning a new hobby. Anyway, she and I both tend to live vicariously through my kids and are eager to see all of their faces on Christmas morning!!
Being the parent of two rambunctious children means that life is never dull! Our young and very energetic son says he wants to be a drummer and believes that that will be his career one day. He has watched his uncle play drums in a band and wants a drumset just like his uncle’s. So I have been tossing around the idea of whether or not to get him a kids drumset. Christmas is coming soon and a childrens drumset would probably be the perfect gift! I have just started looking at drums for kids online to see what is available. I am impressed that so far what I’ve seen is not as expensive as I had originally thought.
I think that watching my son learn to play drums will be so great! Our family is very supportive of each other’s interests and our son’s interest in the drums is not different. If my son is happy then we’re all happy and we have two kids who are even now counting down the days until Christmas!
Like most five-year-olds, my daughter often has more energy than I would like her to have. While I love my daughter, there are times when I wish that she would just sit down for a few minutes. I need to find more ways for her to release her energy and channel her rambunctious behavior in a more positive venue!
Since she already is constantly bangs on objects around the house, I decided to try to cultivate this passion of hers and purchased her a set of drums for kids. There are a lot of affordable, cute and good quality childrens drum sets. Now when she has way too much energy, which is much of the time, I simply put her in front of her drum kit and let her play for a little while. Not only does she love playing kids drums, but it also provides her with a great means of creative expression.
After looking at several types of drums for kids you have finally decided on a kids drum set that you believe your child will really love! What should you do next? Should you encourage them, to play or just let them learn how to play the drums on their own? Well, music and especially percussion-based music is certainly something natural to every human being, no matter how young. But most children do better with a little structure to help guide them learn. Music has a lot to offer for growing young minds. Rhythm, coordination, listening skills, and math are all involved. You can teach your child to recognize a beat by tapping out a rhythm to simple songs and melodies which children often pick up quickly just by imitation. You can teach your child the downbeat and the backbeat of a song by using a very simple four-number repeating loop. You can have your child tap along to a song with a one, two, three, four beat, the downbeat is the first beat and the third beat, your child taps on the first and third beat and you count out loud on the second and fourth beat. Once your child has mastered this they will be able to play a lot of their favorite songs!
You could choose to associate each beat with one of the drums in the drum set, or cymbals or a combination of both. Allow your child to practice until they can reproduce this pattern without having to think about it. With a lot of practice and patience a real drummer will emerge! No more random banging noise! Instead, your child will bang out rhythm, beat, steady alternating sounds and everything else that makes a drummer worth listening to!
Growing up I had a fascination with the drums. My parents bought me a kids drum set when I was in elementary school and when I was in high school I played in a band with a couple of my buddies. We were into hard rock, heavy metal. Hey it was the 80’s and the “hair bands’ were all the rave. Then the real world came into play and now I’m a working father like everyone else.
Now that I am a father it is like going back in time. My six year old son seems to have developed my fondness for the drums. I have more knowledge now about drums for kids than my parents did when I was a child so I think I can find him something pretty snazzy. As a parent you have to let your kids be who they were meant to be without influencing them to meet your own unfulfilled fantasies. However it is quite a bonding experience when you do share a lot in common. I look forward to what the future holds!
I am always amazed at what is available for kids today compared to when I was growing up. I guess my parents felt the same when I was a kid. The only thing that concerns me is that with all of the electronics in today’s world, kids are inadvertently encouraged to live more dormant lives. As a parent this can make it more difficult to encourage your children to play outdoors and get some exercise!
My adorable little five year old son has a big birthday coming up, (hey when you’re his age any birthday is BIG and EXCITING!) Thankfully he does enjoy playing outside on the humungous swing set that my husband built for the kids last year. He tells us that this year for his birthday he really wants a kids drum set. I think that this would be a wonderful gift as it can also teach him the importance of rhythm and timing. Again my husband and I are amazed at the wide variety of drums for kids available today! I think that we will opt for a three piece childrens drum set as that seems like the most appropriate fit for him right now. I know that on May 30th we will have one happy little boy in our house! My husband and I will just have to prepare ourselves for the inevitable noise, oh well!
Our very adorable five year old son is SO excited about his sixth birthday that is coming up on the second of April. He wants to play the drums in the worst way and my husband and I believe that it would be a great idea to get him a kids drumset. My brother got his son a childrens drumset two years ago and it went over so well that I have no problem getting one for our son. I will start bookmarking sites that include drums for kids that pique the interest of both my husband and myself.
I am excited to watch my kids and grow and nothing makes me happier than to see them happy! I am probably just as excited as my son is for his birthday to come! They’re only young once and I don’t want to miss a minute! Spoken from a grateful parent who at the moment appears to have her priorities straight!
