Christmas has been over for months but the memories still remain. Most gifts we buy for our children are loved when they are received but before long the excitement is over and they’re onto the next thing. Not so with our youngest son! We bought him a childrens drum set and if we let him, he would ‘bang on those drums all day’. My husband and I were ever so fortunate this year to find the deal of a century on drums for kids and we have really gotten our money’s worth! Despite the noise in our home, he seems to have developed some good rhythm. He actually began taking drum lessons in February.
Right now he is enjoying his beginner drums and we may get him a full drum set if he continues to show promise. My daughter still likes her Mp3 player but not with quite the passion her brother has for his drum set. I guess as a parent you can only hope to see your child have a passion and want to work on something!
When a girl receives her first drum set, she’ll probably be content to simply beat the heck out of it for a while. As a parent, it’s important to set her straight right from the beginning – before bad habits or lack of motivation starts to form. If your kid is already enrolled in a band class, she should be learning how to interpret drum notation, which is similar to that of other musical instruments.
If your son or daughter is not taking formal lessons, you may need to do some learning of your own before imparting the knowledge to your young prodigy. The sheet music for drummers is a simplified form of musical notation that doesn’t require the drummer to know how to read music. Rather, the sheet music applies a code for each part in childrens drum sets as well as specific action required for each part of the drum set. For example, a lower case “o” means to strike a certain drum, while a lower case “x” means to hit a cymbal.
Did you know that drums are the world’s oldest musical instrument? Before the materials used to make drums today were found, different tribal groups have already played the drums in order to create sounds and rhythms in certain religious rituals. Drums were used for tribal dances or simply to deliver a message or signals. Drums are usually cylindrical in shape and are open on one or both sides.
Drums have really evolved because nowadays, together with other instruments, drum sets are being used by drummers in a band. A full sized drum set today often consists of: drums, cymbals, triangles, chimes and tambourines all at the disposal of today’s rockers. To play the drums, you can use two sticks, your fingers but for floor drums, you need to use your foot to step on the foot pedal. If you start your child with some kids drums you will be off to an interesting adventure with a lot of history behind it!
Parents should study their kids for signs of talent, which can include academic, artistic, athletic or even musical ability. When a child demonstrates an aptitude for or interest in playing music, that desire can be fostered in the beginning with some type of discount equipment to help cut cost. For the child in pursuit of learning to play drums, a basic drum set should at least include a bass drum, a hanging tom and a snare drum with a high-hat cymbal. These are the raw essentials with which a child can hone his percussive skills.
Even kids drum sets can be customized for optimal sound. You can first begin by adjusting the tension of the snare drum. The specific sound that a drum makes is determined by the tension of the skin as it lies across the frame. You can turn the lugs of the drum clockwise to increase tension and counterclockwise to decrease it. It is very important to note that if you tighten the drum too much, it could be punctured by an eager enthusiastic drummer! Best of luck!
My wife and I became proud parents seven years ago when we had our son. Two years later we had a beautiful baby girl. With kids so young Christmas is a HUGE deal and something we talk about for weeks on end before the big day finally arrives! Those were the days when you were SO excited that you couldn’t wait until Christmas morning! Our kids recently spent time with their 16 year old cousin Robert. Robert is a drummer in a band and our son is so taken by him. Ever since our most recent visit with Robert and his family, our son says that what he wants the very most for his Christmas is a drum set like Robert’s
I am glad that my son looks up to Robert so much and I am starting my search for kids drum sets, (a smaller and more affordable version of what Robert has). I think this will be a lot of fun and my wife is into it too as long as he keeps the noise to an acceptable level. It is nice to know that kids drumsets are reasonably priced and should last him several years at least. Kids grow so fast and we are always so busy. I try to make the most of their childhood years and watching my son play with a childrens drumset is yet another way of spending time with my son doing something he truly loves! Merry Christmas everyone!!
My mother has spoiled my kids for as long as I can remember and while I am delighted to see this, I am a little envious because I wish that she had treated my siblings and I half as well. She is well aware of all my children’s birthdays and because she knows that I am a single parent wants to dote on my kids even more. Christmas is always a HUGE production and this year will be no different! She knows that my very lovely young daughter wants nothing more this Christmas than to be able play the drums with her very own drum set! I don’t want my mom to spend too much money and so I told her that a childrens drum set would be just fine
Mom wants to buy a kids drum set that is of good quality and will last. I have been looking online at drums for kids. My daughter will be thrilled beyond belief! I only wish that when I was my daughter’s age and my mother showed half this much enthusiasm when I was beginning a new hobby. Anyway, she and I both tend to live vicariously through my kids and are eager to see all of their faces on Christmas morning!!
My son’s birthday was last month and oh what a fun time it was for him. Usually birthdays come and go and the excitement of gifts received starts to wane over time. Before you know it the novelty of new gifts wears off and the child is on to something else. This is not the case with our young son! We bought him a childrens drum set and if we let him, he would ‘bang on the drums’ all day long!! It was one of the best investments we ever made!! There are so many totally cool drums for children available for today. Despite the obvious noise, he seems to be developing some rhythm. We are actually setting him up with some drum lessons next week. He is quite happy about this.
Right now he is enjoying his beginner drums and we may get him a full drum set if he continues to enjoy the drums and show some real promise. His joy is our joy!! I guess as a parent I am so glad to see him have some passion and want to work on something which makes me want to go the extra mile for him!! Only time will tell.
Our son’s birthday is long over but oh the memories remain. Most gifts we buy for our kids are loved when received but it isn’t too long before the excitement wears off and they’re onto something else!. Not the case with our young son! We bought him a childrens drum set and if we allowed him to, he would “bang on the drums all day”. However despite the obvious noise, he seems to actually be developing some rhythm. We are hoping set him up with some drum lessons very soon. He is quite happy about this.
I think it is so cool that drums for children exist allowing kids to ‘try out’ their skills before purchasing the more expensive adult drum sets! Right now our son is enjoying his beginner drums and we may get him a full drum set if he continues to play. My daughter still likes her Ipod but not with quite the same passion her brother has for his drums. I’m still working on her!! I guess as a parent I am so glad to see my son want to really work on something!
After looking at several types of drums for kids you have finally decided on a kids drum set that you believe your child will really love! What should you do next? Should you encourage them, to play or just let them learn how to play the drums on their own? Well, music and especially percussion-based music is certainly something natural to every human being, no matter how young. But most children do better with a little structure to help guide them learn. Music has a lot to offer for growing young minds. Rhythm, coordination, listening skills, and math are all involved. You can teach your child to recognize a beat by tapping out a rhythm to simple songs and melodies which children often pick up quickly just by imitation. You can teach your child the downbeat and the backbeat of a song by using a very simple four-number repeating loop. You can have your child tap along to a song with a one, two, three, four beat, the downbeat is the first beat and the third beat, your child taps on the first and third beat and you count out loud on the second and fourth beat. Once your child has mastered this they will be able to play a lot of their favorite songs!
You could choose to associate each beat with one of the drums in the drum set, or cymbals or a combination of both. Allow your child to practice until they can reproduce this pattern without having to think about it. With a lot of practice and patience a real drummer will emerge! No more random banging noise! Instead, your child will bang out rhythm, beat, steady alternating sounds and everything else that makes a drummer worth listening to!
I love my sons and as they get older I begin to realize that we have more and more in common. I really like that as it creates more bonding time for us as a family. I have been an avid hunter most all my life and both of my sons have now experienced the joy of spending time in the woods. At the age of fourteen I played drums in a local band that was very popular when I was growing up. I have continued to play intermittently and now my younger son seems to have caught the bug!
My drum set is old, out of date and seems to have more than a few scratches from wear and tear so I’ve decided that it’s time to invest some money now and buy him a beginner drum set. I think it is important to have the right equipment when you are starting out and having the right beginner drums is really key! I really feel like a kid in a candy store looking at beginner drum sets and in a way wish that I too was learning to play again. Oh well, I love to live vicariously through my children and see life through their eyes, like the joy on their faces when they’ve just done something for the first time! There’s no other experience like it!
