The makings of a guitar

It is sometimes very interesting to look at how sound is created and maintained in a guitar. In a plugged-in electric guitar, sound is created when the strings are strummed or plucked and the vibration from the movement is picked up by a magnetic device called the pick-up.  Many discount electric guitars and cheap childrens guitars are available for eager beginners if cost is a worry.  Interestingly, the sound can be further manipulated and modified by turning the volume and tone dials as well as knobs of the amplifier. Most electric guitars have three knobs or dials for controlling the volume, treble and bass tones which are produced by the built-in electronics of the guitar

Basically, a pickup is made of a long copper wire that is wound around one or more magnets. When electricity passes through the copper wire, the magnet/s in the middle of the coil detects the movement or vibrations of the metal strings. Electrical impulses travel through the wire inside the pickup due to these vibrations, and when attached to the amplifier, the impulses create the sound heard from the amplifier.  The tremolo bar allows the player to quickly and easily alter the pitch of the strings.    The tuners are found at the headstock of the guitar and are used to tighten and loosen the strings.  The standard tuning for electric guitar is EBGDAE but other types of tuning such as Drop-D are used depending on the preference of the guitarist and the kind of music played.

Father and Daughter Bonding Time!

I have had a REAL love of the guitar since at least the age of five.  Life as a musician has not always been easy.  It isn’t always easy to make ends meet and at times it means working part-time at various odd jobs here and there.  I am divorced from my kids mother and live with my girlfriend who loves my kids and is a great help but also has two kids of her own to support.

I was looking online for a new guitar stand and gig band and was also looking at discount electric guitars on this certain website.  While I was looking at this website I saw some kids electric guitars that were really cute and looked like they would be a perfect match for my daughter!  Her birthday is not until October but I figure that these are prices I can not beat and I have a kids electric guitar in mine that I think she will just absolutely love!  My ten year old daughter has been begging me for guitar lessons anyway. So I can hardly wait for her birthday to get here.  What a great father/daughter activity playing together this will be!

Watching Them Grow Up!

My grandson has been fascinated with the guitar ever since he was a toddler.  He has had dreams of becoming a rock star all of his life and I hope for his sake this comes true but I try to give doses of reality that this may not be easy to achieve and he better have a backup plan just in case.  He seems to like fixing things like cars and he is quite good at this so I am glad that he does have some skills.  Now that he is older he wants a new guitar because he and his friends are becoming more successful as a band and are getting more gigs.  His current electric guitar is on the”frits” and he needs a new guitar.

My son and I are looking at amateur guitars for my grandson.  We want to get him a good quality guitar but money is a real concern as we are on a tight budget.  My son went online last night to look for discount electric guitars and we are pleased that we have a pretty good selection from which to choose.  I look forward to what the future holds and I hope my grandchildren can fulfill their dreams!  I guess time will tell!

My Job As A Parent

I love my kids to death but sometimes I think they honestly believe that money grows on trees.  I have tried to instill in them that gift giving is relegated only to Christmas and birthdays.  However they still try to get what they can out of me and they seem to think I have the word “Pushover” written all over me.  Maybe I feel guilty because I am a single mom and I’m trying to make up for my husband’s absence.

My thirteen year old daughter has a birthday coming up in August.  She has been pretty much on my case now to get her a beginner electric guitar.   She of course wants it right now!  Because money is very tight (as usually is) I have been searching for discount electric guitars.  I plan to give her this amateur guitar for her birthday in August.   I think it is important for my kids to learn the value of delayed gratification and now is the perfect opportunity for my daughter.  I guess the fact that we all love each other is what matters most because we can never put a monetary value on that.  If my kids can learn the value of loving each other then I have done my job as a parent!

The Inner Workings Of The Guitar

It is sometimes quite fascinating to look at how sound is created and maintained in a guitar. In a plugged-in electric guitar instrument, sound is created when the strings are strummed or plucked and the vibration from the movement is picked up by a magnetic device called the pick-up. The sound is amplified with the use of an amplifier which is connected to the guitar via a guitar cable. Electric guitars have two or three pick-ups that come with a pick-up switch that can be controlled to determine which pickup is active and many discount electric guitars are purchased today for the eager beginner. The sound can be further manipulated and modified by turning the volume and tone dials (or knobs) of the guitar, the tuning knobs, as well as knobs of the amplifier. Most electric guitars have three knobs or dials for controlling the volume, treble and bass tones which are produced by the built-in electronics of the guitar

Basically, a pickup is made of a long copper wire that is wound or coiled around one or more magnets. Today, modern single coil pickups produce less noise than their early counterparts. The tremolo bar allows the player to quickly and easily alter the pitch of the strings, lowering or making the sound higher as the strings are being played. It is usually placed just below the saddle of the guitar. The tuners are found at the headstock of the guitar and are used to tighten and loosen the strings.  The standard tuning for electric guitar is EBGDAE but other types of tuning such as Drop-D are used depending on the preference of the guitarist and the kind of music played.

Cultivating Talent

One of the most important aspects of encouraging children in a new pursuit—whether it be intellectual, physical or emotional—is to have worthy leaders to emulate. I have always encouraged my children to look to leaders for inspiration and motivation when embarking on a new endeavor. So when my youngest son picked up the electric guitar, I suggested that he listen to some of the pioneers.

I was excited when shopped around kids electric guitars, albeit a little nervous about the noise he would be creating. Luckily he developed an appreciation for the same guitarists that I loved—as opposed to those heavy metal thrashers. In just a few months he has developed in to quite an adept player.

My boyfriend’s dream gift!

discount electric guitars zackEverything is so expensive these days!  Just to make ends meet is hard enough let alone having some money left over to have some fun.  My boyfriend Zack wants an electric guitar in the worst way!  I would love nothing more than to be able to give this special gift to him for Christmas but I am not really sure that it is in my budget either.  I have checked in several music stores but nothing looks affordable at the moment.

I just spoke with a friend who told me that she saw some discount electric guitars online that Zack might really like.  This is good news because while I will find something to get Zack for Christmas that he will like, a really cool guitar will make him so happy!  I am now hopeful that Zack will be able “to rock” like he’s always wanted to!
