Never have we had to scrimp and save as we’ve had to since my husband was laid off from his job with a trucking company this past April. We do our best to save but as most people are aware, it doesn’t take long to go through savings. It seems like every time you turn around there’s another expense you haven’t anticipated. Our kids certainly don’t want for anything but it’s really hard to give them much more than basic necessities at times. It makes it difficult when birthdays come around. My adorable eight year old daughter will turn nine on August 15th and we want more than anything to give her what she most wants for her birthday, a nylon stringed classical guitar!
We SO very much want to get this guitar for her! I have already begun a search now for discount acoustic guitars just to see what is out there and see if it is possible to get her what she wants. Our kids try to be understanding but their patience runs out at times as does ours. My husband just told me last night that he looked at a beginner acoustic guitar yesterday that is actually a classical guitar with nylon strings that costs just a little more than he’s like but with some bartering he thinks he can get the price down. The guitar comes from a friend of a friend who owns a music store so we do have some connections there. All we can do is the best we can and hopefully teach our kids in the meantime that there is more to life than material possessions!
Last month we bought our son a kids electric guitar. He couldn’t be happier than a pig in mud! As I mentioned in an earlier post, all of our children love music and do play instruments, our daughter plays the piano and the flute and our older son plays the drums but now says that he too wants to play guitar but not electric guitar. He wants to play acoustic guitar like his buddy Tad. So I guess now we will go guitar shopping yet again.
I think we will look at some discount acoustic guitars as I saw some online and they seem to be quite affordable and very good quality. Our oldest son has been a really good student and will be graduating high school this year. He will be going off to college next year and we want to reward him. He and Tad hope to go to the same local college and play amateur guitar together in a trio with another friend of their’s. I know this will make our son so happy and he will learn to play guitar quickly as he appears to really have some musical ability. This is really very exciting for the whole family!
