My ‘very’ persuasive son!!

My ‘know it all’ son says that he deserves an electric guitar.  After a very persuasive argument he has actually convinced me that a guitar would make his life better.   I am glad he is enthusiastic and I just hope that those ‘cool’ kid guitars fit our price range.  My son assures me that they and everything will just be fine.  If my husband is game then I guess I am game.

After looking online and talking to friends I think that childrens guitars may in fact be more affordable than I thought.  His birthday is in fact on June 15th so I guess that is a good time to give him this precious gift.  I must admit, (though I would never tell him this). I begged my folks for a guitar when I was his age, however my very practical parents made me wait until I was in high school.  When it’s all said and done times haven’t changed all that much!!

Why Chose the guitar for your child?

Believe it or not allowing your child to take guitar lessons might be one of the most beneficial things you can for a number of reasons. Music lessons in general are a benefit to children for a multitude of reasons.  For example, music and mathematics go hand in hand, and in fact, music  is very mathematical. Studies have shown that there is a correlation between the two, and music lessons can definitely have an indirect effect on your child’s mathematical reasoning. So, why take guitar lessons? Well, for one, a lot of kids are more interested in learning guitar simply because their favorite bands all have guitarists.

Finally, you may be saying ‘guitar lessons are expensive aren’t they?’ Well they can be, but they don’t have to be. A good one-on-one teacher can cost anywhere from $20 to $50 an hour, but when your kids are just starting they should be fine with a lower cost teacher.  You might consider buying your child a DVD based guitar course. Kids are amazingly in tune with technology, and tend to learn quickly from watching demonstration.  It is also very important to protect your investment by purchasing a guitar case for your child’s guitar.  Guitar cases for kids are available in different sizes to fit ¼, ½, and ¾ sized childrens guitars.

Guitars, No Substitute For The Real Thing!

Over the past several years, music-themed videogames such as “Guitar Hero” and “Rock Band”  have received a lot of popularity from kids of all ages. The games are popular not only among preteens but also among college students as well. There is debate between older musicians and music shop owners as to whether these games are good learning tools for new musicians.

It remains to be seen whether these guitar-playing games will be beneficial for kids to learn to play a real instrument. Generally speaking, childrens guitars remain the best way for children to hone their skills at a young age. Playing a videogame and playing a real electric guitar require different skills, and a proficiency and one doesn’t necessarily translate to the other.

Encouraging Musical Pursuits For Your Child

There are some activities that children can pursue which will truly help them in many facets of their lives, and one of those activities is learning to play a musical instrument. Even if they don’t continue to play beyond school, they will always have the discipline offered by this undertaking. They will have obtained the concrete skill of being able to read music. Overall, a more creative individual evolves.

That being said, it’s a great idea to encourage and help your child in his quest to learn to play an instrument. Whether it’s the guitar, violin, or the trombone one thing to keep in mind is that you should always get an instrument that’s tailored to your child. Check out kids guitars if that’s your child’s instrument of choice.  If cost is an issue there are many cheap childrens guitars available that do not skimp on quality.  Childrens guitars are a little smaller and easier to handle and just remember that as your child grows, their guitar will grow with them!

Plucking Techniques for the Classical Guitarist

Plucking a guitar looks simple but it is actually a very deliberate activity that requires very intentional and precise plucking.   Because proper technique is so important a guitarist needs to spend a lot of time practicing and it is therefore necessary for a child to spend to learn all that is needed to properly pluck a guitar.  Most musical terms come from the Italian language but the applicable plucking terms actually come from Spanish flamenco style.

First  the rest stroke, or apoyando, requires that the finger first plucks a childrens guitar string before resting the string immediately above it.  It is important to note that these techniques work with full sized guitars and childrens guitars as well.  Another commonly used plucking technique is the straightforward free stroke, or tirando, which requires a simple pluck and nothing more. Plucking should be performed in one fluid motion, beginning with the fleshy part of the fingertip and allowing the string to bend slightly as one brushes through with the nail.

The Good Old Days!

When I was about 10, I told my parents that what I wanted more than anything was to learn how to play acoustic guitar.  I knew that childrens guitars weren’t cheap not including the lessons that I would be taking and since I hadn’t played before there wasn’t a guarantee that I’d continue.  My parents made a deal with me, they said they’d pay for half of the guitar if I paid for the other.

I worked for a whole summer as a paperboy, and managed to save enough money for an acoustic guitar.  My parents were impressed that I was able to save this money and gave me the rest of the money for the guitar as they had said they would.  I think because I worked hard to earn the money, the guitar meant even more to me.  I played it all through junior high and high school and all throughout college.

Money Well Spent!!

Christmas was almost two weeks  ago and my son’s love for his new beginner electric guitar has not waned.  He got a guitar for Christmas and my wife and I agree now more than ever that the money was well spent. I had such a ‘ball’ searching for childrens guitars and I found a great deal that  now feels even greater as I see how much my son enjoys playing!  At times we have to nudge him to get other things done, like keeping his room cleaned but I am happy that he seems to enjoy it so much!  He really appears to be a quick learner and I know he hopes to play in a band in the not too distant future.

I am always happy to see my kids so happy and my wife and I were delighted when our daughter recently developed a love for playing the cello.  I am glad that the beginner guitar has been such a hit with my son but even more, it’s just so great to see him smile!

With Christmas only a couple weeks away, my husband and I feel that we are ‘almost’ ready for the big day.  We just decided to get an electric guitar for our son and finally found one that was shipped to us yesterday.  My husband had started searching on line for childrens guitars last week.  We feel really excited about giving this gift as we know he REALLY wants to play guitar!  My husband will play Santa Claus and he absolutely LOVES doing that!  My kids are already counting down the days!

I will be glad when the rush of Christmas is over but I still love to see the joy in my kid’s faces when they receive the gifts that they really want. My daughter will be thrilled beyond belief that she gets jewelry and albums she wants!   A kids guitar, what more could my son ask for?  Yes Santa Claus is coming to town!

My Rockin Five Year Old!!

My son has been a musical enthusiast ever since the day he was born.  He seemed to bang on the side of his crib in a succinct rhythm as a toddler and then as he got older he would tap the table or anything he could find. We’d be in a store and he’s start banging on the counter or banging in the car on the way to the store, he was just out of control!  When he turned five I knew what we had to get him for his birthday, a kids electric guitar!  My girlfriend was in immediate agreement!  We had fun looking at all the childrens guitars available online!

My son’s birthday was a smashing success.  To say that he LOVES this particular kids guitar is quite an understatement and if it were up to him he would play morning, noon and night!   We want to support his interests and I don’t know if being a musician is his future but I am glad that he is enjoying it so much right now!

Letting Your Kid Try On Different Hats!

I was not aware that childrens  electric guitars existed but my buddy told me that he just bought one for his youngest son and it was really pretty inexpensive.  This is very good to know!  I too have a young son who I really believe would enjoy learning to play electric guitar.  On a whim I started looking for childrens guitars online and I am thrilled at how many cool guitars are available for a kid his age.  I might even get one for myself and my girlfriend, (just kidding!)

My son seems to really like music but he is a little shy so I think this might be a hobby to bring him “out” a little.  As a father it can be hard sometimes to find the line between encouraging and not pushing.  We will try out the guitar and if he doesn’t like it so be it.  I need to expose my child to all I can and hopefully something will stick
