Happy Halloween!!!!!

Halloween Is today and my kid wants to be none other than a ‘rocker’ for trick or treat tonight.  This is really not a surprise since being a ‘Rock God’ has been on his radar for some time now.  Last spring we began talking about guitars for children knowing that our son would just ‘keel over and die’ if he got a childrens electric guitar for his birthday.  Not surprisingly, I don’t think he has ever been happier about any other gift he’s ever received from us!!  We are able to use his guitar playing as leverage to get him to complete other chores such as completing homework assignments and keeping his room clean.

We will allow him to dress as a ‘rocker’ tonight provided that he bring the guitar only to one or two homes, (people that are dear friends of ours).  This will be exciting for him as he will give both my husband and I and his grandparents a little concert in his full garb after he is done trick or treating!  Happy Halloween everyone!

The Joys Of Motherhood!!

All my life I have dreamed of being a parent and I am quite thrilled with the children that I got, (minus a few little quirks here and there oh like having to push the kids to do their homework and to keep their bedrooms from resembling a landfill!)  Our nine year old son told us about three months ago that he was destined toward rock star royalty.  I said “Oh really?  Will you remember us when you’re rich and famous?”  We figured we better get a jump start on our aspiring “Rock God’s” career.  With much ado, we decided to look at electric guitars for kids and before we knew it we found the perfect childrens electric guitar!  So this past Christmas we gave our eager son a ‘really cool’ kids guitar, what a hit! We couldn’t have been more on the money!! We have assured him that there are some rock stars who do manage to graduate from high school.

We have managed to have our son participate in after school activities including boy scouts.  We actually have asked our neighbor who has been playing electric guitar for several years to give our son some lessons.  Our kids are only young once so I want to appreciate any opportunity when it arises!  I can hardly wait to see what the future holds!

Life’s Little Surprises!!

I was lamenting to my girlfriend about yet another birthday for one of my kids.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids but having to spend money on birthday gifts on top of all our other expenses can be more than I can handle at times!  I told my girlfriend that my eight year old told me that what he wants more than anything this year for his birthday is a childrens electric guitar!  My girlfriend told me basically to “chill out” because if I looked online and searched under cheap childrens guitars I might find some really good deals!  You know what?  She just might be right.

After doing a pretty exhaustive search, I must say that there are quite a bit of affordable yet quality guitars for kids available!  While it often seems as though I am robbing Peter to pay Paul, I think I can swing this one!  I am very excited because I know I will have a very happy and surprised kid on October 25th who doesn’t think mom will come through for him this year.    I can hardly wait!!

Making Ends Meet!

It always seems like the cost of living gets worse and worse.  Each year we really struggle to make ends meet.  We try to save but somehow something comes up and we somehow manage to cut into our emergency fund.  With four kids it’s a struggle to make it in today’s times.  It seems that every time we turn around there’s another birthday and before we know it it’s time for Christmas!  Now that it’s almost September, we face the birthday of our youngest son.

We always have a difficult time with his birthday because it’s getting closer to Christmas and we need to start saving money for Christmas gifts.  What our son wants more than anything else in the world this year is a kids electric guitar!  We want to get this for him so very badly and are not sure if we will get him this for his birthday or Christmas.  Yesterday I did an internet search and I typed in cheap kids guitars.  I found some good deals and from what I can gather the guitars look to be of good quality.  I’m surprised because I really thought that we were going to have to spend more money!  As parents you do the best you can, say a prayer, cross your fingers and hope for the best!  I think our son will get his childrens electric guitar for his birthday!

Our Little Rock Star!

My son is a little ham and being the center of attention seems to be something he relishes.   He has been telling my wife and I that he has dreams of being a rock star and has been going around the house playing “air” guitar.  While we are not sure we really want this dream to come to fruition we can’t resist the temptation to indulge him just a little bit.  I have decided that a kids electric guitar is in order

I think it is so cool that there are so many varieties and styles of electric guitars for children.  I have been having a blast looking at what is available online.  I found a kids guitar that I have to get and I think my wife is in agreement.  Our son has a birthday on September 15th and we will present him with his childrens electric guitar at that time.  I can hardly wait!

A Bad Decision Turned VERY Good!!!

After a lot of begging from our youngest son, we got our youngest son a childrens electric guitar for his birthday this past February.  We just weren’t sure we wanted to get him this because of cost and we also wanted our son to focus on other interests.  At the time we had our son involved in boy scouts,  basketball at the YMCA, and church choir.  He begged us for an electric guitar and really wanted guitar lessons.   We were afraid if we got him a kids guitar it would detract him from his other interests and even more importantly his schoolwork.  Much to our delight and even utter shock this hasn’t happened at all!

Not only has our son continued to pursue his other hobbies , (except for choir) but he seems to show more responsibility in most aspects of his life including his studies!  With guitar, he really appears to have more of a passion and because of this he has really picked up the basics of learning to play guitar and read music rather quickly.  He also knows that he will not be able to continue to play the kids electric guitar if he doesn’t complete his homework or continue to get good grades.  He knows that we also expect him to be involved in other activities to live a well rounded life.  Our son is willing to do whatever it takes so he can continue playing guitar.  The guitar in a roundabout way has taught him discipline.  Unknowingly, it was one of the best decisions we ever made!

The Challenges Of Raising My Nephew

My nephew will do anything pretty much to stand out in a crowd it seems.  As a toddler at daycare he managed to get a lot of the attention.  If another kid cried he would cry louder and longer.  If another child became upset and started to scream, he would scream at the tops of his lungs to block the other kid out.  Obviously this did not go over well with the other children or the workers at the daycare center.  As his aunt and now his full time legal guardian, I have tried to channel all that energy in a more positive direction.  This has been augmented with the help of a very competent psychotherapist who has helped me incorporate a very successful behavioral modification program.  I am forever thankful!

My nephew will turn nine at the end of the summer and at his age, birthdays are quite a big deal!  He has requested on more than one occasion that what he REALLY wants the very most is a childrens electric guitar!  While this is not really what I had in mind to get him this year, I have begun to look into it.  Childrens electric guitars come in different shapes and sizes are made for very young children and on up through kids in their teens.   I certainly don’t have all the money in the world but it seems as though electric guitars for children are in my price range.  Now I too am looking forward to my nephew’s birthday!

Teaching Your Children Good Values

What do you get a kid for his ninth birthday who has everything?  I love my kids and I have tried to teach them throughout their lives that the best things in life are free!  I have tried to teach them the value of good times spent together as well as the importance of showing loving kindness toward ourselves and each other.  I believe that my kids see this but it’s hard when they live in such a world of materialism.  My husband and I have been divorced for five years and my ex husband earns a very nice salary.  He is able to purchase very nice gifts for our kids.  They appreciate this but I just hope that they don’t take it for granted.

My son has said that he really wants an electric guitar for his birthday.  I happen to know after speaking with his father that he has a lot of gifts planned for our son but not a kids electric guitar.  I have decided to look into the possibility of purchasing a childrens electric guitar as long as it’s in my price range.  I have heard form a very good and reliable friend that childrens electric guitars are very affordable and that there are a wide variety in which to choose.  This is good news!   As parents we do the very best to teach our children good values.  We give them roots and we give them wings and after that we just hope they fly in the direction that brings them true happiness!

The Little Rock Goddess!

My daughter is destined for superstardom. She knows it and I know it!  I know it because she seems SO intent on it!  It’s REALLY hard not to get caught up in her enthusiasm!  She seems to really love life and we are so very glad about that!!  Now that she is facing the ripe old age of ten she has made an important decision in her life, she has informed us that at this point she really needs a childrens electric guitar to enhance her career!  Ok, as a parent I certainly don’t want to hold her back!

My daughter is such a “spitfire” that I think a kids guitar would be the perfect way for her to release her energy!  She and I have begun looking at childrens electric guitars and I think she likes just about everyone we’ve looked at!   We will have to work on narrowing this list down!  I’m sure as she gets older and reality sets in her dream may change a bit but I want her to have fun with it now so as far as I’m concerned,  for the moment, she’s on her way to becoming a “Rock Goddess!”

Parenting is a Journey!

Last month we bought our seven year old son a childrens electric guitar.  We were on the fence about getting him this gift for his birthday due to cost and we weren’t sure if we wanted to send him the message that we wanted him to grow up to be a rock star!  However we realized that we were taking this WAY too seriously and it was more important to let him have fun!  Actually childens electric guitars are not as expensive as we had originally thought.

Our son has been playing his little heart out.  He has even begun taking some lessons online and seems to have done a good job learning some chord and strumming techniques.   We are even thinking about getting him a private instructor.  Our son is our first born and we are learning as we go.  I’m sure we will lighten up even more as we go along. Parenting is a journey for both parent and child!
