Enjoying Those Early Years!!

Our very adorable three year old son is SO excited about his fourth birthday that is coming up and has been talking about it for months.  He wants to play the drums in the worst way and my husband and I believe that it would be a great idea to get him a kids drumset.  My cousin got her son a childrens drumset two years ago and it went over so well and makes me excited to get one for our son.  I will start bookmarking sites that include childrens drumsets which pique the interest of both my husband and myself.

I am excited to watch my kids grow and nothing makes me happier than to see them happy!  We will be having a party for my son’s fourth birthday and I know my son will be so thrilled to show off his new drum set!  They’re only young once and I’m sure we’ll take many pictures as well as video to add to our family collection.  Times like these are priceless!

Making My Kid’s Year!!

My sweet little six year old son is SO excited about his seventh birthday that is coming up on the second of April.  He wants to play the drums in the worst way possible and my girlfriend and I believe that it would be a great idea to get him a kids drumset.  My brother got his son a childrens drumset last year and it went over so well that I have no problem getting one for my kid.  I will start bookmarking sites that include childrens drumsets that my girlfriend and I feel are appropriate.

I love watching my kids grow and nothing makes me happier than to see them happy!  I am probably just as excited as my son is for his birthday to come!  They’re only young once and I don’t want to miss a minute!  Spoken from a grateful parent who at the moment appears to have his priorities straight!

Letting children hone their own skills?

Most people can conjure up an image of a young aspiring vocalist singing into her mirror with a hairbrush as a ‘make believe’ microphone.  These youngsters actually hone their skills by strengthening their vocal chords and improving their breathing techniques by singing along with their favorite songs.  The question is: could drummers benefit from this same style of learning?

The short answer is yes, but there is a huge caveat. Beginner drummers can learn to establish rhythm and keep with the beat by following along with their favorite CDs.  But however tempting as it may be don’t let a child reach beyond his skill set.  If a child wishes to mimic drummers that play thrash metal or fast paced punk rock, you may want to deter him as these rhythms are too complex for beginners. Have the child build gradually to these types of rhythms.  With the availability of childrens drumsets today, parents can allow their kids to begin their musical journey without breaking their wallets.

The Advantages of Kids Learning to Play the Drums

Children often seem like never ending balls of energy that sometime seem to be rambunctious. Parents are often searching for a healthy way to release and channel this energy.  Many parents turn to sports such as baseball, softball, or hockey and physical activity is a great strategy for tiring out your kids, just a little bit, so they’re not bouncing off the walls. However, the same amount of energy can also be applied to playing a musical instrument because it also unleashes a flood of creativity to your child’s brain to boot.

Childrens drumsets are the ideal musical instrument for energy release as I soon learned when I bought one for my nine year old son. Imagine your child exercising his or her arms and legs and also don’t forget about the workout from the foot pedal. If you and your child are ready for a musical adventure, purchase a drumset today you won’t regret it!

Encouraging Musical Pursuits!

As a musician for many years I LOVE being able to share my interest with all my nieces and nephews.  Through the years family members have actually accompanied me on stage from time to time.  I have always loved to sing.  I also play the acoustic and electric guitar as well as the mandolin.   It has been great to have family come and see me their support means more to me than they will ever know.

I am really trying to encourage my nephew,( who I believe is a “budding” musician with a bright future ahead of him), to begin learning to play drums.  He is a drummer at heart and this is very apparent to me.  Christmas is just about here and I have already purchased a kids drum set for him!  I began searching for childrens drumsets in earnest several weeks ago and was overall pretty pleased with the selection that was available.   So my fantasy is to have my nephew join me on stage one day!

Coping With ADHD

When my son was diagnosed as having Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), I was at a total loss. I already knew that he had a behavioral problem because it was so hard to get him to focus and get anything accomplished.  He tends to be all over the place,  He couldn’t sit down in church, and he always got lost in the mall because he was running about and couldn’t stay where he was supposed to.

His therapist told me that I shouldn’t worry because there are many other cases of ADHD kids growing up to be normal with above average intelligence. She simply advised me to help him find an outlet for his energy. She gave me several options including a trampoline, childrens drumsets, or a basketball.   We chose to get our son a childrens drumset. Slowly I am beginning to understand my son’s condition, and with the proper knowledge in dealing with it, I know that I can raise him to become a competent adult.

The Joy Of Being A kid!!

My son will be seven in just two  weeks.  This is very exciting to everyone in the family, myself included but is the most exciting to our little boy!!  He is precocious as well as ambitious and some say he has as a future doctor, lawyer, or maybe even an Indian Chief!!  Right now, I vote for a musician!!  Our son like many kids his age wants to bang the drums.  He thinks that this is very cool and so do I.  I propose to my somewhat less enthusiastic wife that we start looking at childrens drumsets.  I know that there are some very affordable and fun kids drumsets.

We however need to get a move on as his birthday will be here before we know it!!  I have already bookmarked some good websites.  A buddy of mine bought his son some kids drums and says that for the most part it has been a lot of fun for the whole family, wife included.  I very much want our son to succeed in life but along the way I want him to also have boatloads of fun.  A kids drumset is a great start!

Coming Full Circle!!

I remember how exciting it was to be a kid and get your first drumset.  Those were the days!  The excitement of learning something new is so wonderful and you can never go back in time and be there again.  However, you can provide the same opportunities for your children and live vicariously through them!  Kids drumsets today have really advanced from the childrens drumsets of yesteryear!  So you might say that I am just as excited if not more than my son is to receive a kids drumset for his birthday next month!

My wife watched me play drums for band that was pretty ‘hot’ at the time when we were in high school and just rolls her eyes at the idea of another drummer in the family but overall she is pretty excited too.  Fortunately she has a pretty good sense of humor, (an important coping skill in our house!)  So now I am counting down the days until October 15th!

Your Child’s Joy Makes The Journey Worthwhile!

Our son has been diagnosed with a mild form of Autism.  We have three other children so it is a quite a responsibility to raise him along with our other children.  He requires a lot of care and we have had to reach out quite a bit in our community to get him the necessary services to not only help him function on a day to day basis but to also help him  continue to grow and thrive!  At the request of one of his teachers we got him enrolled in a music class with some other autistic and special needs children.  To our surprise, he loves it more than anything!  On the morning of the music classes, he starts clapping and banging his fists on the breakfast table like he’s trying to play the drums.  It is SO very heart warming!

We decided that we want to continue to explore his love of music even further at home!  Since he really seems to have taken a liking to the drums, we have been looking into getting him a childrens drumset!  We are having fun looking at all the childrens drumsets available and are liking the prices and sales even more!  Parenting is a challenge but when we can find something that brings our children joy that makes the journey all the more worthwhile!

Instilling Good Habits When They’re Young!

Our daughter is stubborn and when she wants something, there’s no talking het out of it!  For her upcoming birthday she states that all she wants is a drumset, nothing else.  While this sounds great to her, to us her parents, we want to be sure that she has more than a passing interest in this before we invest money into this!   Our daughter assures us that this will be a hobby/career for life.  How many seven year olds do you know that can be this astute?  Because she is so young we will look at childrens drumsets only which cost significantly less than adult sized drumsets, THANK GOD!

I am also looking at some instructional DVD’s geared toward children so she can learn proper technique and have fun in the process!  I am all for whatever it is that makes my kids happy but they have to stick with it long enough to really see if they like it and if it is a good fit for them before moving on to something else.  Even though our daughter is only seven, I want her to learn that she needs to put forth effort in all of her hobbies, activities, and studies before giving up because giving up too soon will not bode well for her later in life.   It’s good to instill god habits when your kids are young!  I wish her many years of happy drumming!
