I am always amazed at what is available for kids today compared to when I was growing up. The only thing that concerns me is that with all of the electronics available today kids are inadvertently encouraged to spend more time indoors. As a parent this can make it more difficult to encourage your child to go outside and get some exercise!
My kid has a big birthday coming up, (hey when you’re turning five it’s quite EXCITING and a BIG DEAL!) He tells us that this year for his birthday he really wants a kids drum set. I think that this would be a wonderful gift as it can also teach him the importance of rhythm and timing. My husband and I will have a ball looking at all the childrens drums available for kids. I think that we will opt for a three piece childrens drum set as that seems like the most appropriate fit for him right now. I think my husband and I are almost as excited as our son for June 5th to arrive!
For the most part, drum sets can last for many years with little to no maintenance. All that really matters is the condition of the drum head, commonly referred to as the skin. It’s important that children learn from a young age that the sound of their drums is largely dependent upon the drum head, (i.e. whether the tension is fully intact).
At the first sign of indentions or cracks in the surface of childrens drums, you should change the skins. Sometimes tiny bumps will form in the drum heads, and these bumps can change the pitch of the drums in a way that is unpredictable. In order to increase the longevity of a drum head, try reinforce with your child that drums are meant to be hit right in the center, not outside along the frame.
While some parents believe that their children were born with a natural sense of rhythm, it’s possible to teach kids who are rhythmically challenged to stay on the beat. There are three basic ways to get a young drummer to establish a necessary sense of rhythm to master the drums. The first method involves simply listening to music in a passive way because some people develop rhythm through audio osmosis.
The second technique requires a more active type of listening. Encourage kids to focus on various parts of the song while drowning out everything else. Start with a childrens drums track and then tell him or her to listen carefully to the bass guitar. Finally, you can set up a metronome for your child to use for practice. You can adjust the tempo to a speed in accordance with your child’s level of experience.
What do you get a boy for his birthday who taps his fingers on anything he can find around the house? Who uses the dinner table on a regular basis to pound out the beat to his favorite songs instead of finishing his homework? Why you get him some beginner drums and fast because the furniture in the house could really use a break! My wife tells me that because our son hasn’t yet had his growth spurt we should save some money and invest in some second hand childrens drums. I have to admit that she has a point after all we don’t want to spend a lot of money on something that he will outgrow.
I think that he has caught the music bug early as both my wife and I have been musicians playing guitar, mandolin, and fiddle for many years. Our older son plays bass guitar and we started him on a kids electric guitar borrowed from our neighbor! We seem to be drawn to music and our son is no exception. I look forward to what the future holds!
What do you get for a six year old who has every gadget in the world? One thing you don’t get him is another gadget. I think he has some musical ability and I would love to honor that even though he is SO young. Lately he has shown a fascination with the drums and I think that I would like to explore that further. Learning to play drums could bring him years of pleasure as it might turn into a hobby or maybe even a career! I have started looking online for childrens drums.
My son will turn seven in August so I think that a childrens drumset would be a perfect gift! I want my kids to be who they want to be in life and I want to encourage them without stifling their creativity. I am like a kid in a candy store myself looking at all these kids drumsets, makes me wish I was young again! I may be looking forward to my son’s birthday just as much as he is!
My wife and I became parents five years ago when we had our son. Two years later we had a daughter. With kids so young a birthday is a HUGE event and something to look forward to for weeks on end. Those were the days when you looked forward to your birthday! Our kids recently spent time with their 16 year old cousin Kevin. Kevin is a drummer in a band and our son is so taken by him. Ever since our most recent visit, our son says that what he most wants for his birthday is a drum set like Kevin’s.
I am glad that my son looks up to Kevin and I am starting my search for childrens drums. I think this will be a lot of fun and my wife is all for it too as long as he keeps the noise to an acceptable level. It is nice to know that kids drumsets are reasonably priced and should last him several years at least. Kids grow so fast and we are always so busy. I have to make the very most of their childhood years and watching my son play with a childrens drumset is a wonderful part of doing just that!
Many youngsters decide that they want to learn to play childrens drums. As parents you have decided to purchase some beginner drums for your child and now want them to learn how to play properly. Materials for lessons can be found in drum manuals at your local music store including CD/DVD’s. You can also search online for books with authors/musicians that can not be found in stores. After purchasing a book, the next step is to establish how much time can be devoted to practice. Next, what will you practice? This is important in that it will help your child stay focused on what he is learning. It is best for your child to perform the simplest techniques first until he reaches a level of competency before moving on to more difficult techniques. What is wonderful about learning from these lessons is that you can refer back to them at anytime and brush up what you might need to strengthen.
Do not be opposed to having your child learn from a qualified drum teacher.. The private lesson will enhance what your child has learned and broaden his awareness to different styles of playing. Be sure to share with your teacher the book that your child has been using because he or she may suggest a different one. The most important lesson of all is to allow your child to have FUN!
My daughter has been wanting to play the drums like her older brother and sneaks in his room to play them any chance she gets. This of course doesn’t always meet with approval from her brother. Our daughter says that we have to get her a drum set like her brother’s for her upcoming sixth birthday. I think we will get her some childrens drums instead of an adult sized drum set. I know this will make someone very happy as she has a birthday coming up on the 12th of April.
Her very gracious brother may even be willing to give his sister a few pointers. I think we can get some children’s DVD’s to help with some instruction. When I was my daughter’s age I fell in love with the guitar and have pretty much been playing both acoustic and electric guitar ever since so I do understand her passion! I am looking forward to April 12th just as much as she is!

Parents are always studying their kids for signs of talent, whether it be academic, artistic or musical. When a child demonstrates an aptitude for or interest in playing music, that desire should be fostered with some discount equipment. Basic drum sets should at least include a bass drum, a hanging tom and a snare drum with a high-hat cymbal. These are the raw essentials with which a child can hone his percussive skills.
Even childrens drum sets can be customized for optimal sound. Begin by adjusting the tension of the snare drum. The sound of a drum is determined by the tension of the skin as it lies across the frame. You can turn the lugs of the drum clockwise to increase tension and counterclockwise to decrease it. Be aware that if you tighten the drum too much, it could be punctured with a well-placed stick strike.

Music is a form of communication. In fact, the language of music can transcend generations. That is why kids should be exposed to music at an early age.
It would be great to encourage kids to love music. This can be done by bringing them to music lessons where they can learn to play various musical instruments and discover which instrument they like. Some kids would probably pick the piano, others the violin, while others would want to learn how to play the drums. Instead of the professional or adult drum sets, beginner drum sets can be used for younger kids.
