Standing Out From The Crowd!

With five very unpredictable girls every day is an adventure to say the least!  The very interesting thing is each kid is so completely different from the other.  I mean their interests really run the gamut from basketball to scuba diving to pottery and jewelry making to playing the drums?  Yes you heard me right, playing the drums?  Our baby, who loves nothing more than to REALLY stand out from the rest, wants to play the drums NOW!!!

Our little girl has a tenth birthday arriving in two months, (which isn’t soon enough for her!) and my husband and I are debating whether or not to grant this request.  A couple of nights ago my husband and I began looking on line for childrens drum sets and noted some cute, fun and affordable sets that we may consider.  The good news is that we have time to really look into this and aren’t rushed to make a decision!  If a kids drum set will make her happy then I’m game, as long as she doesn’t become the next Hannah Montana, I’m game!

Bonding While Banging!

What do you get a kid for his birthday who is obsessed with drums?  Who spends his days watching his idols, (like Tommy Lee believe it or not) play the drums and bangs on anything he can find to the beat.  Without too much thought, you get him a drum set and not just any drum set but a kids drum set!  My son will be absolutely beside himself!  I might even have him look online with me so we can look at all the childrens drum sets available and find the “perfect” match!

While this may cost me a few bucks I know it will be worth the investment because the drums definitely won’t be sitting in the corner collecting dust!  Getting him a childrens drum set may inspire me to want to start playing again.  It’s a great outlet and I did enjoy playing as a teen.  Who knows what a bonding experience this could be for my son and I.  Time will tell!

Children’s Drum Sets Vs. Adult Drum Sets

Drum sets are an essential part of any modern orchestra or music band. Drum sets are also called as drum kits and usually contain percussion components such as drums, cymbals and other drumming instruments. Childrens drum sets are quite different from the normal drum sets available for adults. They generally come as a 3-piece set for children who are in the age group of 5-9 years. These include a bass drum, a snare drum and a tom-tom along with a cymbal and its holder, snare stand, drumsticks and drum pedal. Childrens drum sets are typically available in colors such as white, red, and black.

Childrens drumsets are often used during ceremonial rights, marching bands and symphonies. These drum sets have all the features and amenities that are suitable for children. They come with stools that can be adjusted from 13 to 17 inches according to the height of the children using them. Nowadays, children drum sets are available in a variety of styles, designs and shapes. There are certain traditional popular drum sets which are designed for children in contemporary styles and designs but will also be comfortable for children to play. Children’s drum sets are made with attention to minute details so that they are safe for kids. These sets mostly come with chrome steel fittings and high gloss paint finishes in bright colors in order to increase their durability and to make them look attractive.

The Overprotective Father

My son is looking forward to his fifth birthday.  I really enjoy the opportunity I have as a father to live vicariously through him.  I long for the days when I looked forward to my birthday.  He views his birthday like Christmas and has a whole list for his mom and dad of birthday wishes much like his list for Santa Claus.  At the very top of the list is the drums!  It appeared at Christmas and we didn’t get it then so our son says that now we have a “second chance”.  As a musician myself I know how wonderful it can be but as a career it can be quite impractical too.  But my God he’s five,” let him have fun” my wife says and “who knows if he will become a musician.  He’s too young!”   She is always the voice of reason and couldn’t be more right!

So my wife and I have begun our search for childrens drum sets with gusto!  It is fun and the more time we spend looking the more the idea grows on me.  My son is the “apple of my eye” and I may even be able to teach him a trick or two.  There are some good quality kids drum sets out there and after some more thought I think this will be a lot of fun but I can’t help it sometimes if I’m just a little overprotective!

Drum sets are an essential part of any modern orchestra or music band. Drum sets are also called as drum kits and usually contain percussion components such as drums, cymbals and other drumming instruments. Drum sets were originally developed in the United States and were known as trap kits at that point of time. Drum sets are popular amongst all age groups and most children love to hear the booming sound of a drum. There are various drum sets available nowadays that are especially designed for children.

Children drum sets are typically available in a variety of colors. They come with stools that can be adjusted from 13 to 17 inches according to the height of the child.  There are certain traditional kids drum sets which are designed for children. They are scaled down in different child sizes in order to give them an authentic look, but comfortable for children to play.  These sets usually come with chrome steel fittings and high gloss paint finishes in bright colors in order to increase their durability and to make them look attractive. It could be the “perfect” choice for the budding musician.

A Little History Lesson

Drums are the world’s oldest musical instruments.  Before it was even perfected as to what material could be used to make them, different tribal groups have already used them to create sounds and rhythms in certain religious rituals.  They either use them for their tribal dance or simply to deliver a message or signals. Drums are usually cylindrical in shape.  They can be open on one side or both sides closed.

Nowadays, together with other instruments, drum sets are being used by drummers in a band. It is usually composed of drums, cymbals, triangles, chimes and tambourines.  To use drums, you can use two sticks, your fingers or for floor drums, you can use your foot to step on the foot pedal.  You can even get your kids off on the right note with a set of beginner drums.

Managing ADHD

adhdWhen my son was diagnosed as having Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), I was at a total loss. I already knew that he had a behavioral problem because it was so hard to teach him to mind. He couldn’t sit down in church, and he always got lost in the mall because he was running about.

His therapist told me that I shouldn’t worry because there are many other cases of ADHD kids growing up to be normal or even more above average than their peers. He simply advised me to help him find an outlet for his energy. He gave me options including a trampoline, childrens drumsets, or a basketball. Slowly I am beginning to understand my son’s condition, and with the proper knowledge in dealing with it, I know that I can raise him to become a normal adult.

The Wiz Kid Strikes Again!

wizkid childrens drum setMy son has been a ‘wiz” at pretty much everything he has tried.  He is a great student with minimal work, and he LOVES math and science!  He decided to rollerblade and began doing twists and turns almost instantly.  We were thrilled, “scared” but also thrilled!  Our inquisitive son had expressed an interest in the drums and so this past Christmas we bought him a childrens drum set that he just seems to love beyond measure.  I really enjoyed checking out all the childrens drum sets that were available online.

Since he acquired his “extremely cool” kids drum set, he appears to have developed a good rhythm and sound. He turns on his favorite songs and “rocks out” to the music!  I loved the drums at his age too and as a teenager spent a couple of years playing in a band, so I totally get why he loves it so much!  Happiness is knowing that you have helped contribute to the obvious joy expressed in your children’s eyes!

When the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!

childrens drum sets christopherI have been playing the drums in a popular local band for years.  I started playing in high school when my buddies and myself had stars in my eyes convinced we would make it BIG one day.  But graduating from high school, going to community college, getting married and having kids seemed to somehow wipe out that dream as the years rolled on.  But I am fortunate enough in my own life to have established a pretty decent career working in landscape.  Sometimes sales drop off a bit in the summer but playing in the band helps our family get through the rough times.  My band mates and I have known each other for years and we have a good local fan base.

My son Christopher has been the “apple of my eye” for years and one could look at the both of and definitely conclude that the “apple does not fall far from the tree”.  Christopher, (who is now eight years old) has been pretending to “play” the drums for the past many years and we have loved wathcing him do this!  My wife Cindy is sure that Chris will soon follow in my footsteps and begin playing the drums in a band.  Cindy and I both hope to expose Chris to many different types of music.  We have just purchased a childrens drum set as a Christmas gift for Christopher.  We saw so many GREAT looking childrens drum sets that it was hard to decide on which one we wanted.  They are so cool looking and now I wish I could have had one when I was his age!  Now we will see just how much Cindy will love the noise level in our house!

A Drum Set for Zachary!

zachary childrens drum setMy kid LOVES the drums.  We gave him a toy drum when he was a toddler and trust me, it’s gotten plenty of use!  Now that he’s eight he wants a drum set.  So my husband Tom and I have been pricing childrens drum sets and are hoping to surprise him with one on Christmas day!  Zachary, our son really wants one this year because his good buddy Jeffrey, (who lives across the street) has one!  We want to give our kids what they most want for Christmas but finances are a little tight since I lost my part time job this year due to layoffs at the mortgage company where I had worked for fifteen years.

Of course we will get the kids some of the less expensive items that they have asked for but are not sure of some of the larger and more expensive ones.  Recently I happened upon a website devoted to children which had some drums for kids that that were s lot less expensive than I thought they would be.  So now I am thinking that a childrens drum set for Zachary may be perfect this year.   Santa may do a pretty good job after all!
