The Wiz Kid Strikes Again!

wizkid childrens drum setMy son has been a ‘wiz” at pretty much everything he has tried.  He is a great student with minimal work, and he LOVES math and science!  He decided to rollerblade and began doing twists and turns almost instantly.  We were thrilled, “scared” but also thrilled!  Our inquisitive son had expressed an interest in the drums and so this past Christmas we bought him a childrens drum set that he just seems to love beyond measure.  I really enjoyed checking out all the childrens drum sets that were available online.

Since he acquired his “extremely cool” kids drum set, he appears to have developed a good rhythm and sound. He turns on his favorite songs and “rocks out” to the music!  I loved the drums at his age too and as a teenager spent a couple of years playing in a band, so I totally get why he loves it so much!  Happiness is knowing that you have helped contribute to the obvious joy expressed in your children’s eyes!

Drums With A Passion!

cool drummer childrens drum setChristmas is now long over but oh the memories remain.  Most gifts we buy for our kids are loved when received but it isn’t too much time before the excitement is over and they’re onto something.  Not the case with our young son!  We bought him a childrens drum set and if we let him, he would “bang on the drums all day”.  However despite the obvious noise, he seems to be developing some rhythm.  We are actually setting him up with some drum lessons next week.  He is quite happy about this.

Right now he is enjoying his beginner drums and we may get him a full drum set if he continues to enjoy the drums and shows some promise.  My daughter still likes her Ipod but not with quite the passion her brother has for his drum set.  I guess as a parent I am so glad to see him have a passion and want to work on something!

How to Tune Your Snare

Without a doubt, the snare drum is just as integral to your kit as your bass drum. Personally, I prefer stripped down kits: a bass drum, a snare, a floor tom, a high hat and two cymbals – simple, easy to break down and carry. But any skinmaster will tell you, tuning a snare on your childrens drumset can be a real pain. Here’s an easy tutorial:

~ Turn the snares off. The snare drum cannot be tuned correctly with interference from the snare sounds.

~ Tune the top head first. Turn each lug clockwise to increase the tension of the head and make the drum’s pitch higher.

~ Tune one lug, and then tune the lug on its opposite side (180 degrees away). The drum tunes better when you don’t tune these lugs in a circular sequence.

~ Continue this pattern so that you never tune two lugs in a row that are less than a few inches from each other.

~ Repeat this sequence with the bottom head. Be careful not to tune it too high, because these heads tend to break easily.

~ Test the pitch of each lug when finished by lightly playing about 1 inch away from the lug with a drumstick.

~ Make sure all the lugs have equal pitch. At this point, your drum should be tuned.

childrens drum lessons matthewWe have just purchased the “very coolest” childrens drum set!  Our son Matthew will be pleased beyond pleased!  I am so pleased and amazed at the good deals that are out there.  We are also so excited that we have found a good instructor who teches mostly childrens drum lessons.  Matthew has wanted to play the drums ever since I can remember.  Santa will be good to him this year!

Our younger son loves the guitar and we are going to get him guitar hero and the guitar hero songbook.  I think we may have unintentionally started out own family band.  Oh well, I can be a good sport and I can hardly wait for Christmas morning to see the excitement in their faces!

Live in Peace While Your Child Learns to Play the Drums

kids drum lessonsOur son has been banging the drums night and day.  I am a fairly tolerant person but even I have my limits.  If I am going to put up with all the noise than he can at least learn to play in rhythm.  Ever since we bought him a childrens drum set, he feels that he needs to spend most of his free time learning how to play the drums “his” way.

So I have made an executive decision.  I am going to fork out the money for drum lessons.  I looked online and found someone who seems very reputable and claims to specialize mostly in kids drum lessons.  Now my next project will be a sound proof studio so we can all have some peace!

beginner drum lessonsMy son Andy was meant to play the drums and as parents we are very happy about this, (as long as he keeps the volume to an acceptable level).  We want him to learn some good skills and so we are going to look into some good and proper instruction for Andy.  Our friends know of a really good instructor who could teach Andy beginner drum lessons.  I know Andy will be thrilled but we won’t continue the lessons if he doesn’t practice what is being taught.

We have been pleased with the childrens drum set that we bought for Andy several years ago.  I just want him to focus and learn how to play the drums using proper technique.  Now if we can get Andy to do his homework with the same amount of enthusiasm

drum lessons gregI am thrilled for my son Greg has been playing the drums for several months ever since we got him a very quality childrens drum set.   I know that we really need to get him some drum lessons so he can do a much better job of honing his skills.  Greg seems to have some real talent and we want to support him in any way we can.

Greg began playing his kids drum as a child and we knew he would really love this because even as a toddler he would pretend to be playing the drums in his crib.   It was very cute and we think he could begin playing drums as a career one day.   He may follow in the footsteps of his grandfather who played the drums in the Marine Corp Band.

drum lesson dvdWhen you child has a hobby it can make it much easier to know what to buy him or her for Christmas.  My oldest son Kent loves basketball so we are getting him basketball memorabilia.  Or younger son Kris has been a fan of the drums ever since he could breathe!  We bought him a childrens drum set last year and he has “banged the hell “ out of it!   This year we want him to learn to play the drums correctly.  We are trying to find drum lessons for kids and want to buy him a drum lesson DVD.

I think it will be a good Christmas and my husband and I are looking forward to going away all by ourselves for New Year’s.  Thinking about this trip makes going through the hustle and bustle of the holiday season worth it!  Thanksgiving is just around the corner so the “hustle” will be starting soon!

When the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!

childrens drum sets christopherI have been playing the drums in a popular local band for years.  I started playing in high school when my buddies and myself had stars in my eyes convinced we would make it BIG one day.  But graduating from high school, going to community college, getting married and having kids seemed to somehow wipe out that dream as the years rolled on.  But I am fortunate enough in my own life to have established a pretty decent career working in landscape.  Sometimes sales drop off a bit in the summer but playing in the band helps our family get through the rough times.  My band mates and I have known each other for years and we have a good local fan base.

My son Christopher has been the “apple of my eye” for years and one could look at the both of and definitely conclude that the “apple does not fall far from the tree”.  Christopher, (who is now eight years old) has been pretending to “play” the drums for the past many years and we have loved wathcing him do this!  My wife Cindy is sure that Chris will soon follow in my footsteps and begin playing the drums in a band.  Cindy and I both hope to expose Chris to many different types of music.  We have just purchased a childrens drum set as a Christmas gift for Christopher.  We saw so many GREAT looking childrens drum sets that it was hard to decide on which one we wanted.  They are so cool looking and now I wish I could have had one when I was his age!  Now we will see just how much Cindy will love the noise level in our house!

A Drum Set for Zachary!

zachary childrens drum setMy kid LOVES the drums.  We gave him a toy drum when he was a toddler and trust me, it’s gotten plenty of use!  Now that he’s eight he wants a drum set.  So my husband Tom and I have been pricing childrens drum sets and are hoping to surprise him with one on Christmas day!  Zachary, our son really wants one this year because his good buddy Jeffrey, (who lives across the street) has one!  We want to give our kids what they most want for Christmas but finances are a little tight since I lost my part time job this year due to layoffs at the mortgage company where I had worked for fifteen years.

Of course we will get the kids some of the less expensive items that they have asked for but are not sure of some of the larger and more expensive ones.  Recently I happened upon a website devoted to children which had some drums for kids that that were s lot less expensive than I thought they would be.  So now I am thinking that a childrens drum set for Zachary may be perfect this year.   Santa may do a pretty good job after all!
