The Music That Binds Us!

My daughter has grown up with a fascination of the guitar.  She has watched her father and I play acoustic/electric guitar in a Christian rock band that performs at churches on Sunday mornings.  We also do performances for special occasions within the local church community in our area.  Music has always been such a big part of our lives.  We never tried to get our kids involved but it seems that they have chosen on their own to become musicians.  We would support our children no matter what they choose to do with their lives in terms of careers or hobbies but of course we are delighted when they can share something in common with us.

Our adorable five year old daughter has been begging us to get her a kids acoustic guitar.  We are on board with this plan and have begun in earnest to look for childrens acoustic guitars!  We are just loving  this whole process!  I am very happy with what we are seeing and it’s great to see such high quality durability in a small kids guitar!  So maybe it’s true what they say, the family that plays together stays together!  Well, maybe it’s not exactly what they say but it sounds good enough to me!

Beginning Acoustic Guitar: Things To Keep In Mind

So you want to learn acoustic guitar, what do you need to get started?  Most importantly you’ll need the right guitar. There are some things about guitars you need to know.  There are 2 types of acoustic guitars, the standard American steel string classic or the “classical” Spanish guitar with nylon strings.  If you want to play standard songs like “House of the Rising Sun” and classic rock tunes, a steel string is the best choice. If you want to play classical music then get the nylon string guitar.  If the guitar is for a child then you’ll need a 3/4 size or even 1/2 size guitar. There are many affordable childrens acoustic guitars that are also of good quality As an adult, a full size is great. But even the full scale guitars can vary somewhat in the size of the body. When you try guitars out at the store make sure you’re comfortable with the size. Nowadays good acoustic guitars are affordable!  It might be a good idea to get light gauge strings so the strings will hurt you less when you are first learning to play.

Learning only a handful of easy guitar chords at the beginning may be your best choice.  These chords are the following: C, A, G, E, D as well as A minor, E minor and D minor. D7 and A7 are also included in this grouping of easy guitar chords.  As you progress you’ll discover other things to learn such as the infamous F chord. But for now, keep your focus on these easy guitar chords to avoid frustration.  If you find the chords physically demanding, use a capo. The capo is a device that clamps onto the guitar to make the strings shorter. They’re usually very inexpensive and it can make a big difference in the beginning.  It’s entirely possible to teach yourself from the right books or online resources. Keep it simple for now with the 10 aforementioned easy guitar chords.   Do your best to get them sounding clear. Put the capo at the 2nd or 3rd fret if you need to. Once you have a couple of shapes memorized, try switching back and forth between them and pretty soon you’ll be on your way.

We have a good life for the most part and we don’t want for much.  Life was tough last year when the kids lost their grandfather, my father in law.  He has been such a wonderful influence in their lives in many ways.  He was a wonderful musician his whole life.  He sang played piano, guitar and performed in a singing troupe called the Carson Valley Singers.  Our youngest son was particularly close to his grandfather.  Our son is turning ten in three weeks and his one and only request for his birthday is that we get him a beginner acoustic guitar.  I think it’s a great idea!

My husband wasn’t aware that acoustic guitars for children are available.  We will have a good time together looking at childrens acoustic guitars.  I am glad my son wants to play guitar and wants to emulate his grandfather who was a well respected and wonderful human being.  I look forward to this upcoming summer and my son’s birthday will get us off to a good start!

Learning Guitar, Tips For Parents

A question parents often have when deciding whether to have their child begin playing an instrument is: when is the right time? The answer can vary based on the instrument and this article will focus on learning to play guitar. First you will need to decide which type of guitar you want to purchase.  There are many different types of childrens acoustic guitars and childrens electric guitars to choose from. One thing to consider when deciding if your child is old enough to play guitar is whether their wrists and fingers are strong enough in order to successfully play chords on the guitar. For this reason, experts recommend waiting until a child is at least seven years old to start this instrument. Children who want to start playing before the age of seven can start on the piano. They will learn basic chords, notes, and rhythms while their bodies grow strong enough to play the guitar.

Beginning guitarists often learn in a group setting. There are benefits and downsides to group lessons. Most parents choose this option because it is the most affordable.  On the other hand, students do not get to benefit from this one on one attention in a group setting. In an individual lesson, the teacher is able to pinpoint areas that the child needs to work on much more easily. Once you have started lessons, you must work hard to encourage your child to practice. Keep the guitar in a visible location, and allow your child to practice whenever she wishes. However, insist on scheduled practice times as well.  Learning to play guitar can have many benefits for your child and you will be glad you invested your money and time in such a worthwhile pursuit!

Evidence has shown time and time again that extra-curricular activity is important for a child’s overall well being. Music is not only therapeutic for adults, but is also beneficial for children. Learning to play guitar can be a wonderful hobby for children.  Children who learn to play the guitar learn skills of coordination as well as the art of playing a musical instrument. There are many childrens acoustic guitars available today that are perfect for your child during the learning phase.   Parents can also choose childrens electric guitars. The impact of guitar on children is huge.  Guitar is one of the most widely played instruments and this makes it easy to locate classes for guitar. . Keeping this in mind, there is a vast pool of options to choose from to educate your child in the field of music and specifically in the case of children’s guitar lessons.

Notice any child playing a musical instrument, and you will often see a spark that comes up every time they accomplish something new. This is an obvious advantage considering that children get dull with no extracurricular activity. Therefore, it is a pretty safe assumption that most children, if exposed to music in any form, will learn to love it and enjoy it to the best of their ability.  What could be wrong with that?

little darling childrens acoustic guitarsI love music and can’t imagine my life without it.  It has been a part of my life since I was a toddler.  I started singing in the choir at the age of five and also played drums, piano and guitar ever since I can remember.  So I must say that I am thrilled that my children also seem to understand the joy that music brings.  My eldest son loves the drums and we bought him a kids drumset when he was six years old and he has been banging on the drums ever since.

This past Christmas my wife and I could see that my daughter is an aspiring musician and a childrens acoustic guitar would be the perfect gift for her.  We really had fun looking at all the different types of childrens acoustic guitars and we really had to narrow down our options as there are so many great guitars out there that are available for children.  The icing on the cake was to see her reaction on Christmas morning.  We are all so happy to see how much she really loves it and seems to possess some natural ability.  I believe that music is the “spice of life” and I am glad that my family can experience this wonderful outlet!

The Benefits Of Learning To Play Guitar!

kiddo childrens acoustic guitarsIt is not difficult to instill a love of music into a child. Most children love to sing and dance so children’s guitars make a perfect present. They are light, portable and more fun to play than the recorder. Learning to play any musical instrument takes time, patience and money. You should arrange private lessons for your child so that they can learn proper technique from the start. Starting to play an instrument young is a great way to hone your child’s “ear” for music. A good teacher will insist that their pupil practices their chords etc as otherwise they will not get to the next level of playing songs.

There is a wide variety of children’s guitars out there. Some people prefer the sound of an electric guitar. Kid’s electric guitars come in two sizes. Others prefer to start with a child’s acoustic guitar and there are many quality childrens acoustic guitars available. Some prefer the hybrid of an electric acoustic guitar but I would suggest that you start with one or the other and not both. Your child is much more likely to practice the one they have a preference in so why not start there?  If you need an excuse to buy that children’s guitar, research shows that children who are exposed to music lessons from a young age will grow up better prepared for life. It not only appears to improve IQ but also helps with reading. It can increase self esteem as it gives children a sense of achievement when they master a particular sequence or song.

susie childrens acoustic guitarsWell the holidays are over and the kids are back in school.  They are not happy about this but know that it is a part of life.  As a family we had a pretty nice Christmas and the kids for the most part seemed to really like their gifts.  They like their new clothes and my son just LOVES his new MP3 player!

We were able to get our daughter a childrens acoustic guitar that she just LOVES beyond measure.  My wife and I did a pretty exhaustive search for childrens acoustic guitars and finally agreed on one we felt was perfect for our daughter just in time for Christmas!   We are totally amazed at how much progress she has made in a short period of time.  We had purchased some books and DVD’s on learn to play guitar and she got through most of them in less than one week!  My daughter is more motivated than ever to get her homework and chores completed so she can play on her guitar and I must say that that has been an unexpected benefit!

music boy childrens acoustic guitarsWell the Christmas rush is now over and we can begin to relax a little more.  I feel that overall it was a success and my husband and I did a good job selecting gifts that our children seem to really like.  Our musically gifted son had asked for an acoustic guitar this Christmas and we weren’t sure at first because he already plays the cello but we figured that if he would practice the guitar the way he practices the cello, buying a childrens acoustic guitar would be a good purchase.  We really researched childrens acoustic guitars and were really pleased with what we saw!

Our son has been playing the guitar faithfully every day and has really been watching the learn to play guitar DVD’s that we bought him.  Our daughter is thrilled with her new Ipod and has been pretty much dancing all over the house!  Now my husband and I can relax and get ready for the new year.  So now I ask, How many more days until Spring?

my apple childrens acoustic guitarsAh the rush of the season, as much as we complain, we really wouldn’t have it any other way!  Every year we say that we are going to do things more simply but it just never really happens!  So my wife and I went ALL OUT!  We got MP3 players, laptops, and cool clothing items that our kids will love!  One of the most interesting gifts we got was for our eight year old daughter.  She has been bugging us for guitar lessons and so after a long search for childrens acoustic guitars, we found a really good quality beginner childrens guitar.  We are more than excited to give this super cool guitar for our daughter, the “apple of my eye”!

I get to play Santa Claus each year as the kids leave cookies and milk for me.  I love to watch the kids go CRAZY Christmas morning.  I know that our daughter will start jammin right away!  My wife says that she has also ordered some beginner guitar lessons DVD’s that should arrive tomorrow morning!  My kids help keep my inner child alive and kickin!
