Choosing Beginner Electric Guitar

My daughter has her mind all made up that she is going to learn to play the guitar.  She says that the best thing we could do for her is get her a beginner electric guitar for her birthday!    I am not sure whether I want to invest in this or not.  My husband says that it would be a good investment for her as she will play guitar for many years to come.  He said that he has begun searching for beginner electric guitars and really likes what he has seen so far!

I want to be supportive of my children’s hobbies and if this is really what she wants then she has my blessing.  Her cousin, my sister’s son has had a lot of fun playing amateur guitar and it has been a really good thing for him.  My nephew would love to give our daughter some good pointers I am sure.  This will be a special birthday for our musically ambitious daughter!

Looking For The Right Guitar, A Family Project

When our son was little we got his a toy guitar that he just played to death.  We thought it was a passing phase and were delighted to see him play so much!  His interest in guitar has not waned and not he is asking his Mom and Dad to get him a beginner electric guitar so he can learn to play correctly.  Our son as it turns out, sees a future in guitar and may even become a full time musician!  I will support him but I will be most supportive of a well rounded son, one who doesn’t neglect his studies and who is involved in other outside activities!

Our son does pretty well in school and has a nice group of friends.  He is a good kid and my husband and I are in support of his interests.  With a birthday coming up in June we will begin to look together for beginner electric guitars.  We will also look for an instructor and some good beginner DVD’s and books for our son.  Our son says that he knows of some relatively inexpensive but high quality amateur guitars for us to check out.   I’m glad that this is a project we can work on together!

Slowing Down The Circle Of Life

What is a mother to do?  Kids seem to grow up faster than they used to these days.  Before you can even turn around they’re married with kids of their own.  My kids are no exception.  We only have one left at home.  My oldest son is living in an apartment in New York City and is hoping to go to law school next year.  My daughter is a junior in college and absolutely loves it!  Our youngest son will be in high school next year and while he hopes to continue to be a good student, he also wants to play amateur guitar in a band with a few of his buddies.

When our son was a eight years old we bought him a childrens electric guitar and he practically wore the thing out.
He basically taught himself and while he played pretty well, he never really learned proper technique.  My son says he wants a beginner electric guitar so he can learn from some of his friends as well as take courses online.  My husband didn’t want to spend the money right now but has since changed his mind.  Together we have begun looking at beginner electric guitars on websites that our son bookmarked for us.  I just hope that my son can slow down the aging process just a little bit so we can enjoy him a little while longer!

Is It Me Or Have Times Changed?

My son wants a guitar for his birthday period.  If I can only get him one gift that is fine but make sure that I get him an electric guitar.  I must admit that I didn’t expect to hear this from my seven year old!  In my mind, age seven is a time to run, play, skin your knees and ride your bicycle to the corner store for ice cream, (it least in my day this was so).  Look call me a ‘fuddy duddy”, I mean I love guitar more than anyone but I don’t want my kids to grow up to soon!

Do they even make electric guitars for kids?  Yeah, I guess they do.  Yeah, I know they do!  So it’s off to the “net” I go in search of beginner childrens guitars!   Well If I don’t say so myself, there are more websites selling beginner electric guitars than you can shake a stick at!  I must say I’m not really surprised I mean if you can’t find it on the internet you’re not going to find it anywhere period!  Looks like my “eager beaver” will be “rockin out” with his childrens electric guitar in hand pretty darn soon!

All In Fun!

We haven’t had to work too hard to get our kids interested in hobbies.   They have tried all kinds of sports, (from baseball to soccer) and musical instruments (from piano to kids drums).  Recently our seven year old daughter came home from school and said that she know what she wants to do with her life,  she wants to play electric guitar like her idols, the Jonas Brothers.  Oh God!  Tell me this is just a phase!   My husband thinks this is great and assures me that it’s all in fun. He said that he recently saw a childrens guitar that was heart shaped and thinks our daughter might like  something like that!

Our little girl is so enthusiastic and her love of guitar is no different.   We will take our daughter shopping soon for some beginner electric guitars!  Last night we looked at some childrens electric guitars online and bookmarked some sites that we really liked.  Our daughter can hardly contain her excitement!  Her birthday is next month and that should be plenty of time to pick the best most affordable beginner electric guitar for our rock star wannabe!

The Importance Of Learning Proper Strumming Techniques

There are many beginner electric guitars available today for the eager musician. However many beginner guitarists are overly enthusiastic and don’t take time to learn proper technique making it harder to correct later on in their career. It is extremely important to acquire good strumming habits.   For instance, a lot of beginners will strum every single string of a chord with every stroke. Doing this for an entire song can become quite bland, particularly if the guitar is one of the focal instruments in the song. Quite often many guitarists try to replace the rhythmic ideas with a basic strumming pattern. Even in strumming-oriented songs, the up and down strokes may have nothing to do with rhythm, but merely effect. Being able to switch between up and down strums seamlessly, in rhythm, regardless of the pattern should be a goal to focus on.  Using strumming patterns as a substitute for learning proper rhythm is something that can potentially end up becoming a huge problem when songs with more complex or unusual timing comes up.

Learning to control strokes to the point of hitting only a couple of strings each time and swapping between the bass and treble strings can be much more interesting to listen to in many cases. That is not to say hitting every string is bad, but it is something to do sparingly. This creates a dynamic to the song that makes hitting all the strings in the chord a very noticeable thing that draws the listeners attention, rather than base line of the song. Learning to play amateur guitar can be a fun important especially if you learn proper technique from the start.

christopher beginner childrens guitarsOur son Christopher has just informed us that next semester he will be taking guitar lessons as an elective.  He seems SO excited about this and says that he would like us to look at some beginner electric guitars with him for a Christmas gift.  After speaking with Christopher’s teacher, she informed us that what we need to look for are beginner childrens guitars.   She told us where we can find some that are of a good quality and are reasonably priced. She also said that the kids would be learning on beginner acoustic guitars.   The teacher also mentioned some good learn to play guitar instructional DVD’s that would be good for Christopher.

As parents we have always encouraged our children to pursue their interests and have told them that as long as they do their very best we will do whatever necessary to support their hobbies and interests.  Christopher says that he has wanted to learn how to play guitar for awhile now and maintains that he will keep up with his studies and continue to play on his baseball team.  We shall see.  We’ll keep you posted!
