My daughter has always been quite the “little ham”. Growing up everyone has always gotten quite a kick out of that! She has grown up starring in plays and musicals but lately her focus has been on a new passion, the drums! I think it’s fantastic and my wife is excited but not quite as enthusiastic as I. She wants our daughter to continue acting with hopes that she will also get a college education. I told my wife that our daughter is still young and that we need to just let her have fun!
Now that I have some more support from my wife we have begun looking at amateur drum sets for our daughter’s thirteenth birthday on July 2nd. I know that our daughter will be so excited and will probably want to take some lessons which we will support. I think that purchasing beginner drums for our daughter will teach her rhythm, timing and discipline which could have a very positive effect in other areas of her life! I really feel that it is a win/win situation!
Taking beginner lessons is a must if you wish to learn the fundamentals of playing percussion instruments and there is much to learn. You will need to purchase some beginner drums for yourself or your child. Your child will have to learn how to hold the drum sticks and will be taught the proper posture before learning anything else. The faster your child is able to learn the correct drum strokes and the right core fundamentals the quicker he or she will be moving on from beginner drum lessons to advanced lessons were you will learn to play songs.
There are a lot of options to consider when deciding to take beginner drum lessons. Your child can take them in school or in the comfort of his own home. If he opts for beginner drum lessons he will receive one on one instruction from a master of the drums. With one on one lessons your child is more likely to master the techniques faster than having lessons in a group. The only thing that might be a problem with private lessons would be the cost associated with private beginner drum lessons. If you decide to allow your child to take drumming lessons privately the best option would be for you to search online for a teacher that charges less but make sure the person teaching is a credited teacher. Some websites offer streaming video’s of beginner drumming lessons that are good and relatively inexpensive. If you choose one of these sites make sure there is one instructor as too many instructors may confuse your child The other option you have as is to purchase video sets. Like the online option the video’s teach you all the correct ways of drumming. The very best of luck to you and/or your child!
My son wants to continue his career as a drummer. He has been playing the drums since the age of five when e bought him a kids drum set. Now as a drummer in a band he is forming with his friends called “Camouflage”, my son is all but insistent that he needs an amateur drum set to get started on the right foot with his new band. So I guess he just assumes that good old Dad will come up with the money, No problem!
It’s not always easy as a single father but I will help my son get some beginner drums. However, he needs to get a part time job to help pay for these drums. My son is surprisingly in agreement with this plan and since I hold the purse strings I do have some say in what my son purchases. We are looking at amateur drum sets online and bookmarking sites that not only we like but are also affordable. I think having my son earn this drum set makes it that much more meaningful when he actually does receive it!
Many youngsters decide that they want to learn to play childrens drums. As parents you have decided to purchase some beginner drums for your child and now want them to learn how to play properly. Materials for lessons can be found in drum manuals at your local music store including CD/DVD’s. You can also search online for books with authors/musicians that can not be found in stores. After purchasing a book, the next step is to establish how much time can be devoted to practice. Next, what will you practice? This is important in that it will help your child stay focused on what he is learning. It is best for your child to perform the simplest techniques first until he reaches a level of competency before moving on to more difficult techniques. What is wonderful about learning from these lessons is that you can refer back to them at anytime and brush up what you might need to strengthen.
Do not be opposed to having your child learn from a qualified drum teacher.. The private lesson will enhance what your child has learned and broaden his awareness to different styles of playing. Be sure to share with your teacher the book that your child has been using because he or she may suggest a different one. The most important lesson of all is to allow your child to have FUN!
So my kid will be six in just a couple of weeks. This is very exciting to everyone in the family but is the most exciting to our young son. He is quite precocious and very ambitious you might say. I see a future doctor, lawyer, businessman and even a musician perhaps. Let’s start with the musician. Our son Eddie like many kids his age wants to bang the drums. He thinks that this is very cool and so do I. I propose to my somewhat less enthusiastic wife that we start looking at amateur drum sets. I know that there are some very affordable and fun kids drumsets.
We however need to get a move on as his birthday will be here very soon. I have already bookmarked some good websites. A buddy of mine bought his son beginner drums and says that for the most part it has been a lot of fun for the whole family. I very much want Eddie to succeed in life but along the way I want him to also have loads of fun. A kids drumset should help that process!
When my son was diagnosed as having Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), I was at a total loss. I already knew that he had a behavioral problem because it was so hard to teach him to mind. He couldn’t sit down in church, and he always got lost in the mall because he was running about.
His therapist told me that I shouldn’t worry because there are many other cases of ADHD kids growing up to be normal or even more above average than their peers. He simply advised me to help him find an outlet for his energy. He gave me options including a trampoline, childrens drumsets, or a basketball. Slowly I am beginning to understand my son’s condition, and with the proper knowledge in dealing with it, I know that I can raise him to become a normal adult.
Christmas is now long over but oh the memories remain. Most gifts we buy for our kids are loved when received but it isn’t too much time before the excitement is over and they’re onto something. Not the case with our young son! We bought him a childrens drum set and if we let him, he would “bang on the drums all day”. However despite the obvious noise, he seems to be developing some rhythm. We are actually setting him up with some drum lessons next week. He is quite happy about this.
Right now he is enjoying his beginner drums and we may get him a full drum set if he continues to enjoy the drums and shows some promise. My daughter still likes her Ipod but not with quite the passion her brother has for his drum set. I guess as a parent I am so glad to see him have a passion and want to work on something!

Without a doubt, the snare drum is just as integral to your kit as your bass drum. Personally, I prefer stripped down kits: a bass drum, a snare, a floor tom, a high hat and two cymbals – simple, easy to break down and carry. But any skinmaster will tell you, tuning a snare on your childrens drumset can be a real pain. Here’s an easy tutorial:
~ Turn the snares off. The snare drum cannot be tuned correctly with interference from the snare sounds.
~ Tune the top head first. Turn each lug clockwise to increase the tension of the head and make the drum’s pitch higher.
~ Tune one lug, and then tune the lug on its opposite side (180 degrees away). The drum tunes better when you don’t tune these lugs in a circular sequence.
~ Continue this pattern so that you never tune two lugs in a row that are less than a few inches from each other.
~ Repeat this sequence with the bottom head. Be careful not to tune it too high, because these heads tend to break easily.
~ Test the pitch of each lug when finished by lightly playing about 1 inch away from the lug with a drumstick.
~ Make sure all the lugs have equal pitch. At this point, your drum should be tuned.

Music is a form of communication. In fact, the language of music can transcend generations. That is why kids should be exposed to music at an early age.
It would be great to encourage kids to love music. This can be done by bringing them to music lessons where they can learn to play various musical instruments and discover which instrument they like. Some kids would probably pick the piano, others the violin, while others would want to learn how to play the drums. Instead of the professional or adult drum sets, beginner drum sets can be used for younger kids.
Life is a never ending story that is constantly being written and rewritten. As a parent the story has a lot of content as my children add a lot of spice to this never ending novel and journey. My young and very energetic son says that he wants to be a drummer and that will be his career. He has watched his cousin play drums in a band and wants a drumset like his cousin. So I have been tossing around whether to get him a kids drumset. He does have a birthday coming this March and I know he would love to have a new drumset. I have just started to search beginner drums online to see what is available and how much this might cost. I am impressed that so far what I’ve seen is not as expensive as I had originally thought.
My son playing drums will open another new and exciting chapter in our lives. Our family is very supportive of each other’s interests but I must say that our cat who “freaks out’ at the smallest sounds, might not be too happy!, oh well you can’t please them all! If my son is happy then that just adds even more spice to our family’s life story!
