We have a wonderfully talented daughter who just informed us that she now wants to play amateur drums in addition to her repertoire of other instruments. She began singing in the Cherub Choir at a young age and would pick up any object our home and pretend to play the guitar like her oldest brother. Last year we bought her a really cute kids electric guitar! Before we knew it she began to form her own little band with some other neighborhood kids. Now at the age of 8 we will begin to look for a kids drumset to complete this neighborhood band.
My wife is all for it and tells me that if it is what she really wants than we should go for it! I tend to do most of the shopping for our kids’ birthdays so I must now select a childrens drumset so we can get a good one in time for her birthday! Who knows maybe we’ll be coming to watch her on tour soon!
My kid needs an outlet desperately! He has SO much energy!, TOO much energy! It isn’t easy to get him focused and get his homework done. We feel good if we finish the year with C’s and B’s. His teacher has said that he feels our son may have ADHD and we are going to get some testing for our son next year which may prove to be very helpful in getting him some special services. We have been looking to find him an outlet and we just may have found it!
Our son has been claiming for quite some time that he would like us to get him some amateur drums for his fifteenth birthday. He says that his buddies have formed a band and he REALLY wants to be the drummer in this band. My wife and I had been ignoring his request but are now giving it second thought as we think it could provide the outlet he really has been needing. As his fifteenth birthday approaches we will take him to go look at amateur drum sets to see if we can find one that we can ALL agree upon. With a child like our son, parenting is trial by error process and you just do the very best you can!
Buying a beginner drum set can be a daunting task for the person who is just starting out. Drum sets can be costly, sometimes upwards of thousands of dollars so it’s good to know just what you’re paying for. On the other hand, nobody wants to purchase a cheap set and find out too late that the drums they bought are of poor quality. With musical instruments like beginner drum sets the more expensive ones often have better sound quality, accessories, are better built, and have everything you need in one package. However, you can still find some great bargains on amateur drums for under $500.
One of the things many beginner drummers want to look for with their first set is one that comes as a complete package, like the five piece drum set. Look for a kit that consists of all the required hardware including: snare drum, pair of rack toms, kick drum, floor tom, high-hat cymbal, crash cymbal, sticks, and a drum throne in one package. Most amateur drum sets can be upgraded easily as you go along by replacing parts. This is a good option for the beginner drummer who wants to get started. If you know you are serious about drumming than you may want to buy the best set of beginner drums you can afford as long as they meet the above mentioned criteria. If you just want to jam, make some music, and have some fun, then you could buy a set and upgrade as you go along. Just as there are many ways to skin a cat, there are also many ways to beat a drum!
Our son has had many and varied interests throughout his life and we have been there and supportive through it all. He has been a part of the track team, and has been a wrestler for many years. He has participated in karate and got his black belt last year. We are pleased with his participation in hobbies throughout his life. He has been an average student academically. While he doesn’t excel in school he isn’t failing anything either. He has the potential do better but homework has never been a top priority, he simply gets by.
Our son has taken a bit of a departure from his usual athletic pursuits. He has been socializing with a new group of friends who are musicians so I’m not totally surprised to hear this news. Our son wants to be a drummer in a “yet to be” rock and roll band now being put together by our son and his buddies. Our son claims that two of his friends already have electric guitars and have been playing for several years now. I don’t mind him learning to play the drums, but a rock musician, I don’t know? My husband came home yesterday and says that he spoke with a friend at work who told him of a really good deal on amateur drums at a local music store in our area. He said he checked out and that it’s too good to pass up. He wants me to go look at it with him tomorrow. What does it hurt, if our son wants to play beginner drums as much as he says that I guess I’m game!
Our daughter has always been quite a “pistol”. She likes to be the center of attention and manages to stand out in a crowd. I think that she gets a kick out of the fact that the other kids in school look up to her and admire her “creativity” shall we say. For example, last year she went to school one day having cut her own beautiful blond hair. She decided to cut the back and not the front and that’s not all folks. She somehow managed to get some blue hair dye, (probably from her wild cousin who lives only three houses down the street from us!) and streak it throughout her hair! I don’t know how the kid pulled it off but she seemed to be able to get some of the kids at school to actually think that she was very cool. Needless to say we spent the rest of the school year straightening out that mess!
As our adventurous daughter approaches her tenth birthday she tells us that more than anything she would like to play amateur drums in a band. I actually don’t find this a bit surprising as her older brother played in a band for years. We are not going to spend the money on a full sized drumset but will instead look for a kids drumset. I will also get her some instructional Dvd’s and her cousin I’m sure will be more than glad to offer her a few tips. Believe me there’s never a dull moment in our house and while I might complain a lot, in the end I wouldn’t have it any other way!
If it were up to my son he would just bang on those drums ALL DAY LONG! I love to see that he is SO enthusiastic as does his mother but his siblings want and deserve some peace and quiet in their own household! Our son had been absolutely BEGGING us to buy him a beginner drum set for his eleventh birthday and after A LOT of persuasion, we finally acquiesced and purchased him some very good quality amateur drums. He is actually taking lessons from our next door neighbor and we already see some improvement. I know he dreams of playing in a band and I hope to see that dream come to fruition as long as he keeps it in perspective!
It seems that there are so many beginner drum sets today that are tailored to kids and are helpful to an individual who is just starting to learn the basics. I am very impressed! I too had a fascination with the drums when I was his age and I would have loved to have had a drum set like his! Now as a parent I can relive my own fantasies through him. What could be better? Now if we could just all agree on an acceptable noise level!
Making the decision to play the drums and purchase a drum set is a big decision. People have certain notions and ideas in mind when searching for amateur drums. It is understandable to have a bias towards brands endorsed by great musicians, but note that these brands can be very expensive and might not fit your budget. In shopping for a drum set, it is important to control impulsiveness and patience. Don’t jump in on a set just because it’s pretty or on a huge discounted price. Buying cheap drum kits should be put in a context, since cheaper brands are actually still very expensive. When researching cheap drum kits, online check for future holiday sales and price drops, as these may spare you hundreds of dollars allowing you to take home you the very pricey set that you want. If your budget is not enough to enjoy the luxury of major brands, you have two options-wait for several months untrained until you earned the needed money, or buy a less-popular model that you can get right away.
One of the essentials of a great drum set electronic is the Midi Out feature. This feature will enable you to connect the drum set to a sequencer or a music-dedicated computer and record the music you performed. An accompanying sound mapping program is also very nice to have. These programs can map the sounds of the drums one at a time, allowing you to figure out how to record the music correctly. Since the computer is now fundamental in recording performances, you can be certain that the drum kit must be packed with several device plug and play slots and multi-USB capability. Best of luck to you!
My son says that we HAVE TO get him an electric guitar for his upcoming fifteenth birthday because he and his buddies are intent on playing in a band. Our son has been playing his friend’s guitar and now says he needs his own guitar. He has pointed us to some websites that host some really cool guitars! My husband seems to be more enthusiastic than myself at this point. I am glad that he loves the guitar so much but I don’t want him to neglect his studies either! My husband says “Just relax!” and I want to but someone in the family needs to be practical.
My husband has reminded me that when our older son wanted to play drums as a child, we got him a kids drum set and when he was a teenager we purchased some amateur drums. While I do remember that I had forgotten how we worried that playing the drums in a band would deter him from college. Our son still plays in a band but is also building a successful career in the medical field. My husband is probably right, buying our son an amateur guitar isn’t a bad idea, is it?
I am so glad that my family is healthy and happy. After that the rest is just icing on “the sweet cake of life”. Life is hard and when good things happen it just really seems like a blessing after all! Last week our daughteer celebrated her thirteenth birthday and never was she so excited then when she came downstairs and saw amateur drums waiting for her in the family room! The look of joy on her face was well worth all the money we spent (which actually wasn’t as much as I had anticipated!)
Now she plays and plays and plays. We are happy about this and for now seem to be tolerating the noise as well as can be expected. Our younger son seems to be getting quite a kick watching his older sister play and now is starting to hint that he wants to play electric guitar. He assures me that we can find some cheap electric guitars online as his friend Billy, (who practically lives at our house) got a really cool kids electric guitar for Christmas. We may have to mull this one over for a little while. Our younger son’s birthday isn’t until June so we do have some time to save money and look around. With five kids one does have to plan. Anyway, we are blessed to keep putting another sweet layer of icing on our cake!
