Many kids today express an interest in learning to play guitar but what age should they start? First, is your child big enough to hold an acoustic guitar comfortably? Acoustic guitars for kids come in several sizes. The smallest playable guitar that you can buy is a ¼ size guitar. This kids guitar is made for children between the ages of 4-6 whose height is approximately 3ft 3inches – 3ft 9inches. The next size guitar is a half size for kids 5-8 years whose height is 3ft 10inches- 4ft 5inches. The ¾ size kids guitar is designed for kids 4ft 6inches- 4ft 11inches and the full size kids guitar is for children 5ft and over.
After you have established the proper sized guitar, it is extremely important to know whether your child’s fingers are strong enough to properly hold the strings. It is also a good idea that children use a kids acoustic guitar that has nylon strings. Kids acoustic guitars that have steel strings are too hard for soft hands. Finally make sure that your child has the necessary commitment and enthusiasm. Playing guitar can be a great hobby for your child as long as you do your homework.

Sometimes, children who are just learning to play the guitar have only been exposed to a very limited type of musical styles. Rock music has been a mainstay for many years on the pop and there are plenty of rock songs and videos to be found on the radio as well as on TV. But there are many diverse blends and other musical styles that employ the guitar in very different ways?
Flamenco and folk music, just to name a few, are very different from what is easily heard in today’s pop culture. Both flamenco and fold music make great use of the capo, a device that is attached to the guitar at a certain fret in order to raise its overall pitch. The capo is especially useful with acoustic guitars for kids as a child’s fingers are often too short to create adequate chords.

For many years, children have had a fascination with the guitar. Along with the piano, the guitar is one of the instruments used most when a soloist performs. The radio as well as music videos are filled with guitar music. People appreciate different aspects of the guitar from the pageantry to it’s crisp melodic tone. As parents we want to help children reap the many benefits of learning to play this wonderful instrument.
In truth, the full potential of kids guitars can only be unlocked when they are played with some form of accompaniment. In today’s times, children and parents will have to make a choice between acoustic guitars for kids and electric guitars for kids. The Rolling Stones didn’t just stumble upon their talent and success overnight; rather, they spent tens of thousands of hours honing their act. If kids don’t have the luxury of strumming their guitar alongside a drummer, ( as many often don’t) a metronome is a very good alternative. It will keep the child’s playing on track and give him a benchmark for timing purposes which is extremely important.
Our adorable seven year old daughter that we adopted four years ago has been playing acoustic guitar for the past 6 months. We admire her commitment to this hobby and now see how serious she is about learning to play the childrens acoustic guitar. While searching for acoustic guitars for kids we had no idea how much joy this little guitar would bring! We hope to begin acoustic guitar lessons so that she can learn proper technique and really let her spirit soar!!
We have great kids and we really believe that supporting their interests shows them that they are important and that we are 100 % behind them! I am a great believer in getting kids started in hobbies early so they can explore various interests and really begin to see what makes them tick!!
In today’s times there are many guitars available not only for adults but children as well. Because there is so much to choose from, parents have a difficult time choosing which guitar may be right for their child. Considering the vast amount of guitars on the market today, it’s not always easy to determine which instrument is right for your child. One consideration is your child’s age and as a general rule if your son or daughter is below the age of nine a ¾ scale guitar will probably be a good fit because he or she will be able to reach the chord fingerings.
If possible, you might want to take the time to try out a few acoustic guitars for children before making your decision It is important to pay particular attention to the tonality sustain of each guitar when comparing different guitars. Sustain is determined by the width of the strings, (i.e. wide strings can sustain a note for a longer duration). Making a final decision isn’t always easy but at least there is a lot more to choose from today.
Giving up the guitar has always been one of my biggest regrets. I started playing the instrument in the sixth grade and kept it up through college, when life got in the way. My first job out of school was so demanding that I had to budget my free time very carefully. I spent far too many hours at the office! In order to spend time with my fiancée and start a family, the guitar-playing habit had to go. Fortunately, I have the chance to reconnect with the instrument and live vicariously through my son.
My son is nine years old and has been begging me to get him a guitar for Christmas. I decided that a kids acoustic guitar would be the perfect gift for him! With this idea in mind I began looking at acoustic guitars for kids in earnest! I found what I believe is the ‘perfect’ fit for him! I can hardly wait to play Santa Claus tonight and see the joy on my children’s faces tomorrow morning! Having children allows me to relive my childhood and I’m lovin it!
I have tried to be the best parent I can be, not perfect but I guess good enough. I have watched my older son learn to play the drums in elementary school and now as part of a band with four of his friends. He has recently begun a career as veterinary technician but drums will always be his first love. Now my youngest daughter seems to also want to pursue music as a hobby and who knows what that could develop into. She wants to play guitar so my wife and I have begun looking at acoustic guitars for kids.
We want to get her some acoustic guitar lessons taught by a qualified professional. We hope that learning to play the beginner acoustic guitar will offer her not only a wonderful hobby but also teach her discipline, patience and self respect. Christmas is coming up and I think she will be one happy little girl on Christmas morning! We are very happy to explore the gift of music further with a childrens acoustic guitar!

My beloved grandson told me that what he really wants for Christmas this year is an acoustic guitar. When I heard this I thought this was an interesting yet unexpected request. However after speaking with my daughter, (her mother) she assures me that other kids my grandson’s age also like the guitar and some of them have gotten a kids guitar for their birthdays, Christmas etc. I would like to surprise my grandson and get him a kids acoustic guitar for Christmas but I haven’t a clue where to look.
My daughter said that she had already begun looking at acoustic guitars for kids online and believes she has found one that my grandson will really like. I want to take a look before making my final decision but heck if my grandson really wants it then I’m all for it! At his age I can’t even conceptualize wanting such a gift but again it was a different time. Even though times have changed people essentially stay the same. I look forward to more bonding time with my grandson!
My kids love life and put their heart and soul into whatever interests them. My oldest loves horses and if it were up to her would spend all her time at the barn. My middle daughter wants to be a actress. Now my youngest and very much full of personality says that one day she will grow up to be a country singer like some of her idols. She knows that Christmas is coming up next month and more than anything my daughter really wants an acoustic guitar too! So I guess my enthusiastic husband and I will be looking at acoustic guitars for kids. Sounds like fun and I know that because my daughter is so excited, it will be a very positive experience!
Today there seems to be some really cool beginner acoustic guitars for children. A brief search online pulled up a couple of websites that my husband and I have already bookmarked. Even though children’s interests can change just as the wind blows, my husband and I feel proud that our children have interests and we don’t have to constantly pull them away from the many electronic devices available to kids today. As parents we feel very much blessed!
I am a so glad that my son has decided to pursue his interest of playing guitar. I have loved music and have played electric/acoustic guitar for years and I know the joy it has brought me throughout my life. He loves it when I bring out the guitar and start to play. I decided that for his birthday I would get him a beginner acoustic guitar. An exhaustive search for acoustic guitars for kids brought forth a rather nice selection from which I found the ‘perfect’ guitar for my son! He had no idea that I had taken a chance and purchased this for his birthday! The day of his birthday arrived and I saw true joy on my son’s face that I haven’t seen often enough throughout his life!!
I look forward to the day that my son and I will have to actually “jam” together. Even though I would like to play teacher, I will find a competent instructor to teach him proper technique, (probably my friend’s oldest son who gives lessons and has been playing guitar for years). I see this as a great bonding experience for both of us that will hopefully bring us closer for years to come!
