Our adorable seven year old daughter that we adopted four years ago has been playing acoustic guitar for the past 6 months.  We admire her commitment to this hobby and now see how serious she is about learning to play the childrens acoustic guitar.  While searching for acoustic guitars for kids we had no idea how much joy this little guitar would bring!  We hope to begin acoustic guitar lessons so that she can learn proper technique and really let her spirit soar!!

We have great kids and we really believe that supporting their interests shows them that they are important and that we are 100 % behind them!  I am a great believer in getting kids started in hobbies early so they can explore various interests and really begin to see what makes them tick!!

Spreading The Joy Of Music!!

I have tried to be the best parent I can be, not perfect but I guess good enough. I have watched my older son learn to play the drums in elementary school and now as part of a band with four of his friends.  He has recently begun a career as veterinary technician but drums will always be his first love.  Now my youngest daughter seems to also want to pursue music as a hobby and who knows what that could develop into.  She wants to play guitar so my wife and I have begun looking at acoustic guitars for kids

We want to get her some acoustic guitar lessons taught by a qualified professional.  We hope that learning to play the beginner acoustic guitar will offer her not only a wonderful hobby but also teach her discipline, patience and self respect.  Christmas is coming up and I think she will be one happy little girl on Christmas morning! We are very happy to explore the gift of music further with a childrens acoustic guitar!

Our family has played the acoustic guitar for several generations. My father played and performed at different venues in our area.  My husband and I have played off and on throughout the years at various churches and coffee houses and now both my son is expressing an interest to play.  With the holidays literally just around the corner we are seriously considering looking for some quality guitars for children!

We have some very good instructors in our family and extended family who have a lot of experience and would provide acoustic guitar lessons.  We also know of some really good learn to play guitar books and DVD’s. This is all quite fun for our family and I believe our love of guitar will bring our family closer together.   We look forward to Christmas!

What to Consider When Learning Acoustic Guitar

Some people choose to never develop a deep understanding of the acoustic guitar. That doesn’t mean that a person can’t have fun by just being an amateur guitar player by learning a few chords and practicing the technique of strumming.  Fortunately, there are several styles of amateur guitars that a beginner player has to choose from.  There are also a variety of guitar styles that come under the heading of “acoustic guitar”. There is Celtic guitar music that grew out of the folk guitar boom in the nineteen sixties.  So, as well as folk music, there is the classical guitar which is classical music played on the guitar.  Then there is Flamenco, the traditional music of the Gypsies of Spain, and the Bossa Nova music of twentieth century Brazil.  There are lots of free guitar lessons on the internet and all basic lessons apply to the acoustic guitar. All acoustic guitar players will learn about chord families, strumming techniques, picking strokes, tuning your guitar and how to change the strings.  It is very important to get your guitar playing posture correct.  Your posture governs how you look and feel when you are playing.

Even though you want to learn for free, many people who have gone through the experience of teaching themselves say that taking several months of guitar lessons at the beginning is much better than struggling with the basics by yourself. If you are looking for free acoustic guitar lessons on the internet, Google is the place to start. Just do a search for free guitar lessons, or free guitar lessons with the name of your favorite music inserted somewhere. Google books has all the good books on learning acoustic guitar, and many of them have extensive previews. Your next stop should be Google video or YouTube for free video guitar lessons. As you go through the free acoustic guitar lessons on the internet, please remember to keep it simple. It can be tempting to get distracted by some interesting guitar lesson video that is outside your main area of interest, but as you are still learning, it is best to stick to the basics for now.  You’ll be happy you did later.

A Mellow Musical Instrument

kids acoustic guitarWhen my son first asked my wife and me to buy him a new guitar, I was a little hesitant. He already makes a good deal of noise around the house, and it seemed like a musical instrument would only proliferate this. After some discussion, my wife and I decided to compromise with him and purchased a kids acoustic guitar.

Not only did the acoustic guitar create minimal noise around the house, but it has also helped to mellow out our son. Instead of the hard rock that used to blare from his bedroom, he has started listening to more soothing acoustic artists. Although he has only been playing for a few months, he already has become proficient at many classic songs and will be performing in his school talent show next month.

kids guitars genAs the saying goes, someone’s trash is another one’s treasure.  Nothing could hold more truth than this statement about our family.  My son Jacob seems to most to be the perfect child.  He gets good grades, is popular in school and is a star athlete.  He has never had a strong interest in the arts.  Genevieve is somewhat shy and awkward around others. She struggles to be a good student and is a HUGE fan of the arts and you will probably never find Genevieve on a sports team.  Jacob and Genevieve are SO different that it is very difficult for them to find common ground.  As a parent it hasn’t always been easy to convince either one that their sibling does have legitimate hobbies and interests.

As we get closer to Christmas, I again will be shopping for very different Christmas gifts for my family.  Jacob will want more games for his Xbox and Gen will want things that will help her “budding” music career.  She loves country music and has let me know that she would like acoustic guitar lessons and wants me to buy her a kids acoustic guitar.  So I will begin pricing some quality kids guitars!  I guess as a parent having well adjusted, happy kids is the best you can hope for!
