Kid Guitars

We have a daughter that seems to want to be the next Belinda Carlisle.  She wants to start a girl’s band and be the lead singer.  She began playing the bass guitar 2 years ago and we see that she is pretty serious about this pursuit.  Her birthday is in 2 weeks and we are going to buy her some learn bass guitar videos and DVD’s.  When she a child we purchased a kids electric guitar for her and she played it with gusto.

I believe that as a parent we need to honor their interests even if we are unsure of how successful they will be.  Unless their interest is self destructive, we need to respect it and understand that kids wear many hats until they find the skin they want “to keep dancing in”.  We don’t know whether our daughter will continue her interest in singing and playing the guitar but we will continue to support her individuality and creativity.
