Parents wanting their children to learn to play guitar might consider a second hand guitar for their child. When looking at used beginner guitars an electric guitar may be a good choice as acoustic guitars can be bulky and hard for small hands to press down.  Acoustic guitar strings are also thicker and can hurt fingers after a very short time of playing. With the correct set up an electric guitar can be played comfortably by youngsters and/or new guitarists. Every time your child plays their amateur guitar they are practicing whether it sounds like music or not which reinforces them to keep playing. Taking lessons is a great way for children to learn the basics although there is something to be said about learning to play guitar online.  For one thing learning guitar online can be a real cost saver.

Tablature is a number system that represents the string and position on the fret board that you press. This might be more beneficial for the older guitar player and a bit challenging for youngsters.  There are many websites to learn from and tablature can be an easy way because the guitarist may never have to learn to read music. The tab sites can offer lessons, tips, and information that one can’t get from a teacher.  However there is often no substitute for a live teacher who can teach a student different styles and offer lots of encouragement.  Best of luck!
