It is not difficult to instill a love of music into a child. Most children love to sing and dance so children’s guitars make a perfect present. They are light, portable and more fun to play than the recorder. Learning to play any musical instrument takes time, patience and money. You should arrange private lessons for your child so that they can learn proper technique from the start. Starting to play an instrument young is a great way to hone your child’s “ear” for music. A good teacher will insist that their pupil practices their chords etc as otherwise they will not get to the next level of playing songs.
There is a wide variety of children’s guitars out there. Some people prefer the sound of an electric guitar. Kid’s electric guitars come in two sizes. Others prefer to start with a child’s acoustic guitar and there are many quality childrens acoustic guitars available. Some prefer the hybrid of an electric acoustic guitar but I would suggest that you start with one or the other and not both. Your child is much more likely to practice the one they have a preference in so why not start there? If you need an excuse to buy that children’s guitar, research shows that children who are exposed to music lessons from a young age will grow up better prepared for life. It not only appears to improve IQ but also helps with reading. It can increase self esteem as it gives children a sense of achievement when they master a particular sequence or song.
