Respect the “Amateurs”

playing_guitarOne of my favorite hobbies is attending concerts and musical performances throughout my community. While many people only attend big ticket events, I enjoy the intimacy of smaller venues and discovering new artists. Although the stage show and peripheral aspects of a big name band are amazing, there is something special about witnessing lesser known musicians.

While many performers insist that they are amateur guitar players or musicians, they often display an impressive musical prowess. Especially with the litany of music available today, fame is not necessarily indicative of a performer’s skill or potential. Many of my favorite musical acts are musicians that most people have never heard of and will never be played on the radio.
