What Family Means To Us!!!

So we’ve reached the end of 2010!  How does time go SO fast?  We had a pretty good Christmas this year and for the most part our kids still seem to be enjoying their gifts and we are always glad about that.  As we prepare for New Year’s Eve, my young son promises to ‘rock out’ along with all the other Rockin New Year’s Eve festivities that will take place again this year!  We bought our son a childrens electric guitar and he just LOVES it!  We really did our homework while searching for childrens electric guitars.

As a parent I really believe that  real success is measured through the love shared amongst members of the family.   Money and career is important but nothing can beat the love between parent and child!  Our older daughter loves figure skater and is rising through the ranks as a real contender.  Sharing this accomplishment with her has been an incredible bonding experience for our whole family!  My wish for this 2011 is that everyone can experience joy, sense of purpose and to be able to experience life as authentically as possible!  Happy New Year!!

The Advantages of Learning to Play an Instrument

There are many activities that children can pursue that will truly help them in the long run, and one of those activities is learning to play a musical instrument. Even if they don’t continue to play the instrument beyond their school years, they will always have the discipline offered by this undertaking. They will also be left with the concrete skill of being able to read music. All of these creative kinds of learning greatly contribute to a more creative and well rounded individual.

With this in mind, it’s a great idea to encourage any interest your child expresses regarding learning how to play an instrument. Whether it’s the guitar or the cello, one thing to keep in mind is that you should always get an instrument that’s tailored to your child. As such, you might want to look into kids guitars if that’s their instrument of choice. In today’s times a parent can choose between a wide variety of childrens electric and childrens acoustic guitars. They’ll be a little smaller and easier to handle for your kid. Just remember that they will grow, and the instrument will need to grow with them,

Acoustic Vs. Electric

My mom bought me my first guitar when I turned seven.   My parents felt that an acoustic guitar was perfect for me!  As much as I love playing on an acoustic guitar NOW, it wasn’t what I ‘really’ wanted back then,   As a kid who idolized Eddie Van Halen and Pat Benetar, I wanted to play a flying-V, which is something that wasn’t available for kids back then.

Now, parents have an easier time finding all types of beginner childrens guitars, because many guitar companies are expanding their reputations to include children’s lines.  While acoustics are good starts, if you have a kid who is definitely going to want to “rock” out, I would personally recommend an electric.  It’s a little loud, but hey, that’s what earplugs are for, mom and dad.  Also, electrics just sound better

As a practical mom I want my kids to pick careers and hobbies that will serve them well later in life.  The hobbies that my children have chosen up to this point include: playing the flute and saxophone and running on the cross country team.  I only begin to raise eyebrows when my children begin to talk about making music a career which seems like quite a long shot to me.  Now my youngest daughter says that she will be a ‘rock star’ no matter what.  We decided to honor her request for an electric guitar and after an exhaustive search got her a beginner kids guitar for Christmas that she absolutely LOVES!!!

I am happy for my daughter but am hoping and praying that this wish to be a rock star is only a passing phase.  I know that I need to be supportive of my children and I guess that if they are TRULY successful and happy in life, then I will support them. My daughter is a good kid and seems to have a good head on her shoulders and momma just needs to STOP WORRYING and let her kid have FUN!!!

For the most part our family had a nice Christmas this year and Santa was rather good to the kids I must say, (strapped the budget a bit but that’s ok).  I can’t complain except that the kids drumset we bought for our son is such a hit that he wants to play the thing morning noon and nigh!.  I am glad that he is so happy and I feel good that my wife and I did our research when looking at drums for children.  I think however we need to find some leverage in order to curtail some of the noise.  I’m sure in time his enthusiasm may wane a bit, hopefully not die but just slow down a bit.

My wife says that she will deal with the situation by insisting that he keep his room clean and toys picked up and put away, (hmm not sure about that one).  I have always been a music enthusiast and I think his passion is just great!  I hope you and yours also had a nice holiday.  Happy 2011 everybody!

The Joy of Christmas!!

Our family had a very special Christmas this year!   The greatest satisfaction my husband and I experience is watching the joy our children experience on Christmas morning. This year we took a chance and bought our eight year old son a kids electric guitar and what a hit has been.  My husband and I looked long and hard at various types of beginner childrens guitars and feel so good that we seemed to find the perfect fit for him, (a ¾ Size AXL guitar).  We know he wants to be a rocker when he grows up and that is fine with us as long as he doesn’t fall behind in school or not become involved in other activities.

Yesterday our son performed a nice little concert for us.  My husband now insists that we get lessons for him and says that he will also see that our son watches the learn to play guitar DVD’s that we bought him.  I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and my very best wishes for a happy, healthy, prosperous and fun filled 2011!

Christmas day is here and if we haven’t made the right decisions regarding gift selection there’s no second guessing it now.  In particular we are excited to give our ambitious and happy go lucky daughter a beginner kids guitar!  We know how much she enjoys the guitar and so we began searching for beginner childrens guitars a month ago to find the best fit for our daughter.    We also purchased some learn to play guitar DVD’s and books that seem like they would be very helpful for her.

Every year we rack our brains for the perfect gifts we know our children will love.  I think that for the most part we do a pretty good job and I feel sure that a childrens acoustic guitar will be a HUGE hit with our daughter!  We wish you a Merry Christmas.  We wish you a Merry Christmas.  We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Living Vicariously Through My Kids!!!

Giving up the guitar has always been one of my biggest regrets. I started playing the instrument in the sixth grade and kept it up through college, when life got in the way. My first job out of school was so demanding that I had to budget my free time very carefully. I spent far too many hours at the office!  In order to spend time with my fiancée and start a family, the guitar-playing habit had to go. Fortunately, I have the chance to reconnect with the instrument and live vicariously through my son.

My son is nine years old and has been begging me to get him a guitar for Christmas.  I decided that a kids acoustic guitar would be the perfect gift for him! With this idea in mind I began looking at acoustic guitars for kids in earnest!  I found what I believe is the ‘perfect’ fit for him! I can hardly wait to play Santa Claus tonight and see the joy on my children’s faces tomorrow morning!  Having children allows me to relive my childhood and I’m lovin it!

Keeping My Father in Law’s Memory Alive!

We have a good life for the most part and we don’t want for much.  Life was tough last year when our kids lost their grandfather, my father in law.  He has been such a wonderful influence in their lives and in the lives of many others.  He was a wonderful musician his whole life.  He sang played piano, guitar and performed in a singing troupe..  Our middle son was particularly close to his grandfather.  Our son’s one and only request for Christmas this year is a beginner acoustic guitar. My husband and I were more than happy to oblige!

My husband wasn’t aware that acoustic guitars for children were so readily available.  We really did have a good time together looking at childrens acoustic guitars.  I am glad my son wants to play guitar and wants to emulate his grandfather who was a well respected and wonderful human being.  I look forward to what the new year will bring!  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

Encouraging Musical Pursuits!

As a musician for many years I LOVE being able to share my interest with all my nieces and nephews.  Through the years family members have actually accompanied me on stage from time to time.  I have always loved to sing.  I also play the acoustic and electric guitar as well as the mandolin.   It has been great to have family come and see me their support means more to me than they will ever know.

I am really trying to encourage my nephew,( who I believe is a “budding” musician with a bright future ahead of him), to begin learning to play drums.  He is a drummer at heart and this is very apparent to me.  Christmas is just about here and I have already purchased a kids drum set for him!  I began searching for childrens drumsets in earnest several weeks ago and was overall pretty pleased with the selection that was available.   So my fantasy is to have my nephew join me on stage one day!
