Seeing That Smile On My Kid’s Face!!

My son’s birthday  was almost a month ago and my son’s love for his new beginner guitar has certainly not waned.  He got a beginner electric guitar for his birthday and my husband and I couldn’t agree more that the money was well spent.  At times we have to nudge him to complete less attractive activities like getting homework done, keeping his room clean  but we are happy that he seems to love playing so much.  He really appears to be a quick learner and we know he hopes to play in a band in the not too distant future.

It makes me happy to see my kids so happy and my husband and I were delighted when our daughter recently developed a love for figure skating.  I am glad that the amateur guitar has been such a hit with my son but even more, it’s just so great to see him smile!

For The Love Of Guitar!!

My husband loves country music and blue grass music just about more than anything else in life.  His enthusiasm seems to have rubbed off our children, most particularly our son Ethan.  My husband enjoys playing acoustic guitar and Ethan seems to relish the time he gets to spend with his father watching him play.  We would love nothing more than to surprise Ethan this Christmas with his very own childrens acoustic guitar! My husband has a lot of connections and seems to have quite a lot of friends who really know guitars and know where to find quality beginner childrens guitars

I am so excited to know that we can find a good affordable kids acoustic guitar and have it sent to us well before his birthday at the end of October!   Ethan’s older brother also shares the family passion of loving to play guitar and is actually a bass guitarist in a local band.   We also started him with a beginner guitar and saw amazing results!  One day I know I’ll be sitting in the front row watching my husband and two sons play together!!

What do you do with a very limited budget and a kid who swears that the only thing he wants most for his birthday is a beginner electric guitar!  At first I said, “no way, No Way, NO WAY!”  But then upon further investigation I began to discover that there are some very affordable beginner electric guitars online!  I just want to let parents know that there are some great websites that actually do promote cheap electric guitars!

Mom and Dad will be good this year after all I just hope that we can also find some cheap ‘kittens’ for our little girl as well!  Maybe one of our children will get us a ‘cheap’ mortgage on a  new house!

Bangin On the Drums ALL Day!!

Our son’s birthday is long over but oh the memories remain.  Most gifts we buy for our kids are loved when received but it isn’t too long before the excitement wears off and they’re onto something else!.  Not the case with our young son!  We bought him a childrens drum set and if we allowed him to, he would “bang on the drums all day”.  However despite the obvious noise, he seems to actually be developing some rhythm.  We are hoping set him up with some drum lessons very soon.  He is quite happy about this.

I think it is so cool that drums for children exist allowing kids to ‘try out’ their skills before purchasing the more expensive adult drum sets! Right now our son is enjoying his beginner drums and we may get him a full drum set if he continues to play.  My daughter still likes her Ipod but not with quite the same passion her brother has for his drums.  I’m still working on her!!  I guess as a parent I am so glad to see my son want to really work on something!

Surviving The Changing Identities Of Childhood and Adolescence!

What can a parent do?  One day our daughter wants to be an actress, another day a ballerina, another day a race car driver, (over my dead body)!!!  I know that all kids have their whims and trying different activities is part of growing up and learning who they are as individuals but as parents, it’s hard to know sometimes when to push and when to let go.  As of late however, our darling daughter has expressed interest in becoming a musician, (mainly a guitar player in a rock band)!!!!  She has grown up watching her cousin play bass guitar in a local rock band and I really believe that Jennifer wants to follow in her cousin’s footsteps!  Jennifer does love her cousin and has always looked up to him! Throughout the years she enjoyed playing on his guitar while receiving instruction from him.

So as the holiday season is approaching I am giving serious consideration to purchasing a quality kids electric guitar for my daughter.  I have a lot of  support from my wife in this venture!  I recently became aware that there is truly a market for childrens guitars and I am hoping to find one that is a good fit for us.  Stay tuned as I search for the perfect childrens guitar!

What Will Be On Santa’s Sleigh This Year?

I said to my nine year old son “what do you want for Christmas this year?”  I expected him to say something like Xbox, Webkinz, an MP3 player, but no he said he wanted a beginner acoustic guitar!  I thought “ Wow! I really wasn’t expecting that!”   My husband and I have always loved acoustic and classical guitar music and so I guess this isn’t a really out of the norm for us.  So if our son decides to follow this interest then this could be something that the whole family can share together!

So now my husband and I are going to begin a search for acoustic guitars for kids!  I think my husband and I will have fun searching for kids acoustic guitars and  can’t wait for Santa to give this special gift and put a big smile on our son’s face. Finally, I think we will look  at guitar cases for children  so our son can feel like a real professional with his acoustic guitar!

Learning to play the guitar is no easy feat for anyone child or adult and my seven year old daughter wants to undertake this venture in the worst possible way.  In order for her to do this I need to get her a kids guitar not an adult sized guitar!   I think I’ll begin looking for kids acoustic guitars.  My daughter is nine years old and after speaking with several knowledgeable friends of mine they feel that a kids acoustic guitar would be a great starting place.

After looking at several music stores and online as well, I think I have some really good prospects regarding beginner acoustic guitars.  In addition, I have some good references for guitar instructors.  I have also bought my daughter books and DVD’s about learning to play the guitar.  I want my daughter to be happy and I will do what it takes to help make this kid’s dream come true!

We have been a family of musicians for quite a few years now  and so we are not surprised to hear  that our baby girl wants to follow the family tradition.  She has grown up watching my husband and I sing and play in a band for many years.  Our other two children, ages fifteen and eighteen have  joined us onstage from time to time  As Christmas approaches we know that we have to get our darling daughter  a childrens guitar!, it’s a no brainer!!  My wife and I can hardly wait!  We have quite a few contacts in the music world who will give us good feedback and  point us in the direction of some good quality kids acoustic guitars!

I can totally envision the whole family on stage!  We certainly aren’t the Family Von Trapp but we love to have fun and express ourselves through music!   The years ahead hold a lot of promise as we grow together  in harmony!!

Livin Vicariously Thru My Kid!!!

I am an excited Dad who loves the fact that my kid will be seven in just a few weeks.  This is quite a thrill to everyone in the family but is truly the most exciting to our young son. He is a bit precocious and very ambitious you might say.  My wife sees a future doctor, lawyer, or businessman but I see a great musician!!.  Let’s start with the musician, shall we.   Our son Eddie like a lot of kids his age wants to bang the drums.  He thinks that this is very cool and to tell the truth, so do I.  I propose to my somewhat less enthusiastic wife that we start looking at drums for children .  I know that there are some very affordable and fun kids drumsets out there!!

We however need to get a move on as his birthday will be here before we know it.  I have already bookmarked some very good websites.  A buddy of mine bought his son beginner drums and says that for the most part it has been a lot of fun for the whole family.  I very much want my kid to succeed in life but along the way I want him to also have a blast!!!  A kids drumset should help that process!

I have the happiest kid on the block right now since that fateful day in July when we bought him a kids electric guitar for his birthday!   After months and months of cajoling from him we finally gave him the good news that we would get him a beginner electric guitar for his birthday and told him that he could help pick it out!  I must admit that it was fun looking at all the different kinds of kids guitars available  Much to our surprise we found one that we all agreed on and that doesn’t usually happen!

So now he plays and plays and plays and then plays some more!!! I am glad about this except that the noise can be a bit much at times.  We just recently got a ¾ guitar case so we can protect this precious guitar that we invested so much in!  There also seem to be quite an array of guitar cases for kids.  We are glad to see our son so happy and know that he will feel even more a part of the family as his brother plays the drums and his sister plays the violin and also sings in choir.  Who knows, maybe we will even start our own family band!
