The winter dulldrums are here! There is no escaping it. It is forcing our family and I know many others to stay indoors. I guess if we have to be indoors than we better find things to do that please us and help us occupy our time. For instance we got our son a beginner electric guitar for Christmas and he couldn’t be happier. He just needs to keep the noise at an acceptable level. He seems to be a quick learner and has already completed the guitar songbooks we bought him.
I did have fun with my husband exploring many different types of amateur guitars. I am glad that he is happy but he also needs to be considerate of the other people in the house. Actually I think that tomorrow night he is planning on giving us a mini concert to let us see and hear how much he has learned in a short period of time. That should be fun! Now how many weeks until spring?
One of my favorite hobbies is attending concerts and musical performances throughout my community. While many people only attend big ticket events, I enjoy the intimacy of smaller venues and discovering new artists. Although the stage show and peripheral aspects of a big name band are amazing, there is something special about witnessing lesser known musicians.
While many performers insist that they are amateur guitar players or musicians, they often display an impressive musical prowess. Especially with the litany of music available today, fame is not necessarily indicative of a performer’s skill or potential. Many of my favorite musical acts are musicians that most people have never heard of and will never be played on the radio.
Sometimes I feel like my parents when I carp on my children for not taking care of their things and recognizing the value of a dollar. A prime example of this is with my daughter; we bought her a guitar for Christmas and I have already found it lying around the house several times. She even had to replace several broken strings after her little brother tried the instrument
Since her grandparents gave her money for Christmas, my husband and I decided to mandate that the funds would have to be spent on a childrens guitar case. While she obviously was opposed to the idea, we know that she will be thankful when the case inevitably prolongs the life of the instrument
I guess I should be grateful, I have a good wife, good family and a good job, (my job can be very stressful but I should be glad at this point that I even have a job). Sometimes after the holidays there can really be a feeling of being let down as all the excitement seems to be over. I must say however that there are many good memories from this holiday season that I will treasure. We decided to get our daughter her first guitar. She seems to really love it and that makes us very happy!
Our daughter kept saying that a friend of her from school has a beginner guitar and that she would like to learn how to play the kids acoustic guitar! We felt that Christmas was a good time to get her started on this. We were quite pleased with the vast selection of beginner childrens guitars available. She will start taking beginner guitar lessons next week. She is very excited about this and most importantly we are glad for her too!
All the excitement of the holidays are over and now the January “blahs” are here. My kids are hoping for a big snowstorm so that they can get some more time off from school. In the meantime some of the pleasant memories from Christmas still remain. For instance, we bought our son a childrens electric guitar. He could not be more happy! He literally wants to “jam” morning, noon and night! We are glad for this and my husband and I did have quite a ball researching childrens electric guitars.
My older daughter has voiced concerns about all of her brother’s guitar playing. She however should really talk because she seems to fill the house with song as she “rocks out” to her Ipod. I think we will be getting some guitar instructional DVD’s soon. We hope to get through the winter and before you know it spring will be here. Hang in there everybody!
Learning the guitar, or any instrument for that matter, can be a painstaking and time-consuming process. Taking lessons will expedite this process of course, but going to a professional on a regular basis can be expensive. A great option for learning the basics is to utilize video guitar lessons.
Not only will the video lesson provide the same basic training as traditional lessons, but it is also just a fraction of the price. Unlike traditional teachers who are only available to you by appointment, video lessons are always at your disposal, allowing you to hone your skills on your own time.

Like most five-year-olds, my son often has more energy than I would like. While I love my son, there are times when I wish that he would just sit down for a few minutes. One of my tricks to induce a lull in his rambunctious behavior to find means for him to release his energy.
Since he already is constantly banging on objects around our home, I decided to try to cultivate this passion of his and purchased him a set of drums for children. Now when he has too much energy, I simply tell him to go play his drum kit for a little while. Not only does he love playing the instrument, but it also provides him with a means of creative expression.
We are in a new year and a new decade. I want to wish everyone a very happy and healthy new year. I have enjoyed music my whole life and spent part of my youth playing in a band. I noticed early on in my son’s life that he also is a musical enthusiast and that we should try and help him develop. He stated that he wanted to learn to play drums and so this past Christmas I purchased a kids drumset and not surprisingly, he absolutely LOVES it! I couldn’t be more thrilled.
As far as childrens drumsets go, I think I done good! I am quite impressed with the quality and affordability of what’s out there. He seems to have some natural ability as I had suspected. As a parent I want to guide my children and help them find balance in their lives and I am committed to that process. I am excited for the future!
Well the holidays are over and the kids are back in school. They are not happy about this but know that it is a part of life. As a family we had a pretty nice Christmas and the kids for the most part seemed to really like their gifts. They like their new clothes and my son just LOVES his new MP3 player!
We were able to get our daughter a childrens acoustic guitar that she just LOVES beyond measure. My wife and I did a pretty exhaustive search for childrens acoustic guitars and finally agreed on one we felt was perfect for our daughter just in time for Christmas! We are totally amazed at how much progress she has made in a short period of time. We had purchased some books and DVD’s on learn to play guitar and she got through most of them in less than one week! My daughter is more motivated than ever to get her homework and chores completed so she can play on her guitar and I must say that that has been an unexpected benefit!
When my son first asked my wife and me to buy him a new guitar, I was a little hesitant. He already makes a good deal of noise around the house, and it seemed like a musical instrument would only proliferate this. After some discussion, my wife and I decided to compromise with him and purchased a kids acoustic guitar.
Not only did the acoustic guitar create minimal noise around the house, but it has also helped to mellow out our son. Instead of the hard rock that used to blare from his bedroom, he has started listening to more soothing acoustic artists. Although he has only been playing for a few months, he already has become proficient at many classic songs and will be performing in his school talent show next month.
