acoustic guitar lessonsI have known many guitar players throughout my life. Many of them were in college and high school. They were the guys who would whip out their guitars when you were all sitting around a campfire and begin impromptu acoustic guitar lessons. It’s hard for me to recall what their names were, but I never forget the music that they played and the good times that were had by everyone.

There is one that I do remember however. I met him during college at a student camping retreat. There we were all sitting around a blazing campfire; drinking beers and talking about what our plans were for the rest of the summer, when this quiet guy I hadn’t noticed took out his guitar and began to play the song “Something in the Way She Moves” by James Taylor. His guitar strap was unlike any one I had seen before. It had drawings and signatures all over it. When he asked me to sign it I was touched. That quiet guitar player has been my husband for 25 years now. There’s something about those guitar players!

42-19762642Twins run in our family and I have 2 fraternal twin boys who love music as much as I do.  We hope to be able to get them some amateur guitars this year for Christmas.  It has been so great to learn that there are some really cool kids electric guitars out there.  We have a wonderful cousin who will offer them really good instruction.  We also have some wonderful learn to play guitar DVD’s as well.

I have played guitar, drums, and piano throughout my life and my wife has played piano and harp most of her life.  We are very glad to have them learn guitar and other instruments and/or hobbies of their choice.  There are some great kids instruments out there and I have to admit that I would love to see my boys become musicians like their parents

I am very excited that the holidays are approaching.  My husband and I often perform during the holiday season.  He plays organ and acoustic guitar, while I play the flute.  We are very excited to have our ten year old son join onstage this year.  Last year we bought him an amateur guitar after an exhaustive search for beginner childrens guitars.  He has been a voracious learner and is incredibly excited to join his mom and dad on stage this year.   He has a wonderful teacher and has gone through every guitar instructional book we have given him!

As parents we couldn’t be more proud!  We love music and have been so grateful to be able to bond with our son through our mutual joy!  The sound of music is the best Christmas gift imaginable for our family!  To you and yours, Merry Christmas!

father childrens drumsetsAs a father I am more than willing to support my children in any way I can.  They have chosen some wonderful hobbies and I have been proud to be a part of them.  My oldest daughter is a fantastic tennis player.  My wife and I have enjoyed going to her matches and are glad that she will continue playing tennis in college.  My middle son has been playing rugby for several years and despite some minor injuries, is one of the most enthusiastic players I have ever seen!  My youngest son says he wants to play the drums.  He has informed my wife and myself that he would like a kids drumset for Christmas!  My wife seems to be less excited about this idea than I am, I think it’s great!

After searching online and looking at childrens drumsets in some local music stores,   I am pleased at what I am seeing and I need to purchase one soon so it will arrive in time for Christmas!  I have also ordered some kids drum lessons DVD’s.   I am SO excited for Christmas this year!
