The electric guitar is inextricably linked to rock and roll music, and it’s really no wonder why. From the time Bob Dylan “plugged in” at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, people came to associate acoustic guitars with a soothing, folksy sound and electrics with a loud, uproarious rock aesthetic. As always, there are exceptions to this rule. Chet Atkins was one of the most famous and accomplished country performers of all time, and he used the electric guitar to make his name.
Atkins practically trademarked the clean, crisp and confident country-western guitar tone that became a staple of country music. Rather than disguising his skillful playing behind a wall of distortion, Atkins put his talent out in the open for all to see. He dared his fans and competitors to emulate his playing style. It’s important to recognize that a kids electric guitar is a versatile instrument; by playing nothing but loud rock music, you’re creating unnecessary limitations.
So what will Santa have in his sleigh this year? I know my daughter Liza can’t wait. She has told me that Santa will bring her some drums this year and it will be no problem for Santa to fit it in his sleigh. And Santa’s elves can make anything she says. “Oh boy!” I thought “Can Santa afford this, I might ask?” Apparently the economy hasn’t affected Santa this year.
My husband doesn’t think getting drums for Liza is such a big deal. Maybe he is right, since we will only be getting a kids drum set we can probably find a good one that is pretty affordable. Our friends are musicians and I know they can probably get us a good deal. I bet there are some pretty cute drums for children that Liza will really like. I guess her drum set will have a special spot on Santa’s sleigh after all.
